Hi,

I have dial-up at home and recently have not been able to upload with cover scans.  Three computers.  If I take the laptop to where broadband is available I can upload.  I can upload without cover scans.

When trying, the File upload window appears, the File size is displayed and  Status: Complete is shown almost immediately and after 20 seconds or so the Status changes to Disconnected and a Read Timeout Error is displayed.

Any corroboration?  Any insights?

Would be strange if dial up connections are not able to contribute, of course with large files (scans) it takes  alot more time than with a broadband connection.

How do you share the database?

If you have different databases, I would try to do a database repair on  the Computer the upload didn't work.

Edit: give the database repair a try, no matter how you share the database.

I think this was reported a week or so ago. At least two users had the same problem.
So it seems to be a problem on the Invelos side.
Probably best to report this directly to Ken so that he can contact his hosting service.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

(This is meant more as a general post to keep from creating yet another topic since it fits here as easily.)

I am also a dial-up user, but I had not submitted any images for quite a while (at least since before the most recent DVDP release) until just now.

I don't know it means anything for your situation, but I attempted to upload images several different times (new and those already in the database). Every time, even after a DB repair, the window would show the size of the combined files being uploaded and the lower number as 32.0 KB exactly every time (almost like an initialization routine instead of part of the file itself). The program would then lock up... every single time.

Downloading from the database has never been an issue even for images.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

Hi there,

Thanks for the responses thus far.  I have waited much longer than the time it should take to upload the file (even after the Read Timeout error).  I tried a Database repair and also did a re-install.  I don't share the database.  Every so often after I Backup the database I do a Recovery on a computer which I don't use much, and also on a laptop.  Same problem on each computer.  I've never seen the 32KB indication nor has Profiler locked up but the rest sounds the same.  I have successfully uploaded images in the past.
I've spent the last week fooling around with a computer which I just assembled. I installed the software including Profiler and have the same problem.
I'll wait to see if I get any replies this evening and then see about putting in a trouble report.  Never done that but I can probably figure out how to do it.  If I can't I know where to go for help.
Thanks all.

curious to know..,,  do you use dial up instead of broadband cable becasue of your location,, or just choice.
I was under the impression that all or darn near all of the USA had the ability to access the internet thru cable or satellite modem., Is this just a rural area where you reside?  or a choice of what you need.

Just curious as I said ...

Terry I always have a dial-up connection and high speed connection is available here. For me it's only because I don't really need more (of course I hated it every year when the new OOTP is released and I've to download a 200 Megs and more files but it's the only time when my low speed annoy me) and 56.4 is better than 14.4 the speed of my first modem. Why pay more than 17$/month when it's perfectly fine?

Well, if the problem is on your end, the first thought that goes through my mind is if there are seperate firewall settings per connection type, i.e. broadband versus dialup.  Since it seems to be a common problem among other users, it presumably isn't on your end.

Hey Terry,

I spend $7.95 a month for service through Toast.net.  I have a laptop and any number of places where I can access broadband.  I like to hold stuff for my money, like DVDs.  Toast provides a web accelerator at no additional cost, so except for streaming video I'm okay.  The service includes 250 MBs of online storage.  Now let me tell you about my cell phone.  First of all I can play Snake and...
