Weekend Movie Marathon
Unwatched DVDs
What with all the movies I have received as gifts lately... my unwatched DVD collection is larger then it ever was. As of now I have 299 movies in my unwatched Collection. Of course a few of these movies I have seen before. Just never watched them since getting it on DVD. Including all media (VHS and laserdisc as well) I got a little over 4000 unwatched profiles, so I don't think I'm even going to try to join the marathon.

I would have suggested Saw VI, because it was after a always worser getting series a part that was a bitter better and viewable....

...but then I remembered.

So my vote for this weekend also goes to Black Hawk Down.

Some reason... I am the same with war movies as I am westerns... I have to be really in the mood for one to enjoy it. That is why you haven't seen me watch many... and I have so many in the above list because my mother loved them... and I have her collection now.

Title: Sherlock Holmes
Year: 2009
Director:
Rating: PG-13
Length: 128 Min.
Video: Widescreen :1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, French: Dolby Digital: 5.1, Spanish: Dolby Digital: 5.1
Subtitles: English, French, Spanish

Stars:
Robert Downey, Jr. [Robert Downey Jr.]
Jude Law
Rachel McAdams
Mark Strong
Eddie Marsan
Robert Maillet

Plot:
The hangman did his job. Dr. Watson declared the condemned man dead...and yet Lord Blackwood has emerged from the tomb to assert his deadly will over 1890 London. Is he in league with the forces of hell itself? Is the whole Empire in peril? It's a mystery macabre – and only Sherlock Holmes can master it.

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law put memorable imprints on Holmes and Watson in this bold new reimagining that makes the legendary sleuth a daring man of action as well as a peerless man of intellect. Baffling clues, astonishing Holmesian deductions, nimble repartee, catch-your-breath scenes on one slam thing after another – director Guy Ritchie helms the excitement reintroducing the great detective to the world. Meet the new Sherlock Holmes !

Extras:
Scene Access
Bonus Trailers
Featurettes

My Thoughts:
When I first saw the trailer for this movie I was nothing more then disappointed. So much so that I didn't even have an urge to see the movie. The trailer made it look like they changed Sherlock Holmes into a pure action character. Thankfully that was not the case in the movie. They did a great job of balancing the action and the classic deductive reasoning of the classic Sherlock Holmes. I am so glad that this movie was given to me... as I don't think I would have bothered buying it... and I have to admit that I loved every minute of it!

Now here is where I expect to get flamed... I think they could have done a better job at casting Sherlock Holmes. To me Robert Downey, Jr. was only OK... passable in the role. Robert Downey, Jr. has always been hit or miss in my opinion... as I disliked him in just as many roles (if not more) then I actually liked him in. And while he did a fine job in the role... something just didn't seem quite right for some reason. Unlike his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man which I felt he was outstanding in. I loved the rest of the cast in their roles... but it just seemed like something was off on the main character of the movie. But that didn't take much away from my enjoyment of the movie... as I said... I still loved every minute of it.

My Rating: 4.5/5

I'm glad you enjoyed Sherlock Holmes.  After watching 26 Holmes films and 2 full series, it's one of my very favorites.

I think a lot more of Downey than you do - after Holmes & Iron Man I've been picking up just about anything he's in.  I've become a big Downey fan.  But I'm not going to flame you - everybody's entitled to think differently about actors.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Subtitles: N/A

Stars:
Lynda Carter
Harold Gould
Philip Sterling
Dean Stockwell

Plot:
Lynda Carter is Kate Carlin, a caring social worker suddenly drawn into a horrid reality of underworld mayhem. Threatened and manipulated, she jeopardizes her job desperately trying to crack the operation wide open.

Extras:
N/A

My Thoughts:
This movie is out of a boxset of old TV Movies that was recently given to me. A release called Life, Love and Romance. The first thing I noticed is that they didn't put too much time and effort into cleaning up the prints. I mean it wasn't terrible... but it was like watching a second generation VHS tape. The movie itself was pretty good. I definitely enjoyed it. And it was good to see Lynda Carter in another role. Though I must admit whenever I saw her character in trouble I half-heartedly expecting her to do her spin and turn into Wonder Woman.

The teen girl in this... the girl trying not to give up her baby... she looked familiar. The part is played by Donna Wilkes. Not a name that is very familiar to me. But Checking DVD Profiler I realized why she looked familiar to me. She was in an episode of The Incredible Hulk that I recently watched.

I'm also not a big fan of war movies. (29/1100 movies with Genre war in my collection and there are many I would say that are not a typical war movie)

But Black Hawk Down is one of my favorites. So if you're in mood give it a chance.

Plot:

Extras:
Scene Access
Feature Trailers
Deleted Scenes
Featurettes
Production Notes

My Thoughts:
I went into this one expecting much of nothing... as I have heard this is one of Sandra Bullock's worst movies. I am actually sitting here kind of surprised by that. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I wonder if some people don't care for it as much because it didn't end the way you would suspect in a romantic comedy. I personally liked that about it. Granted I liked Sandra Bullock's character the best... and I would have probably made the opposite decision... but I do like that it didn't go with the obvious ending. Not many romantic comedies do that. This one is not a laugh out loud funny movie... but it is definitely entertaining and lighthearted. Though going by the people I talked to at least... I am in the minority thinking so.

My Thoughts:
Here we have another movie I enjoyed a lot. I liked all the characters... and the story was more then interesting. It surprises me that this is based on a true story. That kid definitely had some guts. I thought that both Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio did a fine job in this one. I also enjoyed Christopher Walken. If you ever find yourself looking for an entertaining true story... you could definitely do worse then this one. I would recommend checking it out.

My Thoughts:
While a decent movie... it is a bit of a letdown compared to part one. It is just missing that certain something the first one had. I do not care for the new leading man in this movie. Though Sandra Bullock is as lovely as always. And I definitely had to laugh at her taking the driving test at the beginning of the movie. It was a nice continuation from part one. Over all I am glad I have it in my collection... but I see myself watching part 1 much more then this one.
