| Posted: | | | | I'm sure there was a reason to not develop the iDevice app utilizing the online backup feature, just not sure what those reasons were.
As it's developed now, the user has to:
1) Enable sharing in DVDP on home pc 2) Add Windows firewall exception (if used) 3) Configure Port Forwarding on home router (if used) 4) Determine home pc's External IP address or Setup/Configure/Use DNS (if access from outside home network is desired) 5) Configure DVDP on iDevice to use correct DNS or External IP 6) Sync
By utilizing the Invelos online database backup, the whole syncing process could have been simplified greatly:
1) Using DVDP from home PC, perform online DB backup 2) From iDevice, enter ID & P/W of online DB 3) Sync
Using the online backup would also alleviate the need to leave DVDP up and running on the home PC (now acting as a Server).
Updates could be accomplised through the iDevice, syncing with the online backup, then DVDP on home pc could be manually synced at next launch... |

In my opinion, Ken did a bad job of explaining that. You only need the main program running to sync as far as I can tell (and printing of course and maybe another feature or two). But once the collection is loaded, there's no real need to keep the main up running until you want to sync. Otherwise I couldn't be using it at work today since I did the wi-fi setup. So, you don't need the main app running. Once you have your collection on your device, you can shut down the main program for general usage. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. | Posted: | | | | Mark, you are correct. You only need the main PC up and running if you want to print a report or perform a remote action. Once you synch, you do not need to keep it up and running if you just want to take your collection on the go. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |
