| Posted: | | | | Does anyone know how I might import a list of titles (over 500) of films I own. I already have my DVDs in Profiler, but would like to add my electronic library, which do not have bar codes, only titles? I have the list in a single column text file. Thanks for any help, John. |

| Posted: | | | | I'm not sure if Bulk Edit can help here.
DVDProfiler is (as the name already says) for profiling DVDs (or other comparable Media-Types). It's completely lost if you don't have an identifier like UPC/EAN or at least DiscID. Since electronic libraries usually have neither, the only remaining way to get those into the database is to create manual profiles. "Manual" in this case is really meaning "manually". | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

See here for an idea. Some major enhancements to BulkEdit are being tested, but will not be ready for a week or two. If you want to use the technique in the post I referenced, you can probably eliminate the Discs portion of the XML, to make it simpler. If you don't know how to write scripts, PM me the list of titles and an email address that I can send you an XML file back. Future versions of BulkEdit will have some title and CSV import functions. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! | Posted: | | | | The easiest way I can think of is to create a tag called "whatever you want" flag the titles and check the tag, then you can sort on the tag whenever you want. This way you are still only maintaining 1 profile and not several. You can include or exclude which ever tag you want in your sort. You can create a report for viewing or printing from your sort. When your finished, just click clear all filters. Tags have helped me sort things any way I want, like: movies, Blu-ray 3D, multiple versions, Sequels, etc., etc. in any combination I want. If I misunderstood your question...never mind. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. | | | Last edited: by mreeder50 |

I had intended to supress that menu item. Please do not try to use it at this time. Sorry about that. CSV import information can be found in the BulkEdit thread in the Plugins Forum. I believe that there is also a User Guide - check the installation folder. (Edit: My mistake - no User Guide (yet)). I'll make you a deal. PM me the CSV file and I can use it as test data. Include an email address where I can send you the result - an XML file that you can import easily. Maybe that will hold you for awhile until I finish the project. I am putting in a lot of new stuff. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | I tested the latest version just to see if any of the CSV options survived enough to be used - NOT. So, I will be replacing the erroneous uplaod with one that removes that menu. Also, I couldn't find that User Guide - must have imagined that. Best I could find was a detailed post in the BulkEdit Forum, describing the field headers and how to do the CSV import. I will try to get this update done soon. Meanwhile, my offer to give you a head start still holds. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | Ok, I would encourage you to try the new BulkEdit V2.27 and report any issues. To import a list of titles, create a file like this:
Title This is title 1 This is title 2 This is title 3 etc ...
The heading "Title" is recognized in all format options. If you spell it otherwise, it will not be recognized and you will have to use the Custom format and map the column manually.
You can optionally enclose the data in quotes, which is recommended to avoid parsing errors if the titles have special characters. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | Ok, lost. I created a CSV file with a single column, titled Title. I then ran Load CSV and selected the file I had created. IT imported all the titles, but does not now allow me to update the titles from online with full data? Great progress, but what am I doing wrong? To xplain what I am expecting to happen...I am hoping I can import a list of films just by title, then get all their details including their coverart by using the inherent features of Profiler. Do you have a manual for a dummy? Ta, John. |

Do you have a manual for a dummy? Ta, John. Apparently there has been a misunderstanding. DVD Profiler requires a UPC as a database key. I thought you knew that. The mapping between Title and profile is not one-to-one. Think about how many hits you would get on Google for "Star Wars". I have experimental code for doing what you want, but it is not ready for release. The beginnings of that code are in LoadDVD Pro, where a title match search gives you a Netflix page or you can stream the movie. To get an idea of the issues involved, try entering a DVD into the database by title, and you will see what I mean. To do that automatically requires additional information, or assumptions in order to select a specific release, so you would have to interact with the program for each movie, or just accept whatever match it makes. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Oh, and one more point. If I wanted a feature that allowed you to select from a set of near matches, I would need access to the online database, and I would likely have to pay a huge fee for that. There are other UPC databaseses available, but they also want to charge me a large fee. Only thing left is to do an internet search, which is the code I am experimenting with. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | I went back and re-read your original post: "I already have my DVDs in Profiler ..."
This lead me to believe that your electronic files were not associated with DVDs. But if your files are in fact associated with DVDs already in the database, I do have other unreleased code that is available under restricted pre-release licensensing. Send me a PM if you want to explore this option.
And for another tidbit, take a look at the ScrapeGoat menu of BulkEdit. It gives a glimse at another side of the quick entry toolset that I am experimenting with. ScrapeGoat allows you to select from a list of online profiles of other DVD Profiler users, titles that you want to add to your collection. It is quick and easy. So, if you can find one or more users that are likely to have titles that you want to add, use ScrapeGoat, and you can quickly populate your database with those profiles, in a bulk spreadsheet-style operation. You don't get their personal information - it is just a real fast way to select profiles, based on metadata that you can see in spreadsheet form. | | | Thanks for your support.
