| Posted: | | | | I don't know how you guys cope over there with it. Every time i get a region 1 DvD it's the same old nonsense. First the plastic wrapping is stuck to the spine, and warps the the plastic cover on the spine. Finally after you get the wrapping off wee bits of it are still stuck to the spine, that you have to pick off gently so you don't damage the cover.
But it get's worse. Now comes the dreaded pointless sticker on the top. You notice a little tab on the side of the sticker telling you to pull up. So you pull up and guess what....it don't work. You spend the next 5 mins picking the dam thing off in bits. To then for your effort be left with a sticky residue over the top of the cover.
Seriously is it that hard to package a DvD properly! | | | Last edited: by ShinyDiscGuy |

In the rare occasion the stickers doesn't come completly it's easy to use the sticker to remove the sticked part on the plastic... | | | Last edited: by Jimmy S |

Wrapping - I think the sticking to the spine is from the heat for the shrink wrap, its not sticky ( at least non of the ones I have had the issue with ) but it seems to have a nice static charge to it.

| Posted: | | | | I believe that sticking to the spine comes from being packed tightly, getting to hot during shipping and staying on the shelf for extended periods of time. This allows the shrink wrap to begin to break down and become more brittle.

-R Thanks for the advice. The DvD's we have here all you have to do in most cases, is pick open a couple of folds in the plastic. At the top that bind the wrap. You then rip the top of the wrap off and then pull the rest off. Also i have often thought but never bothered to investigate. Are Region 2 DvD's better quality? The cases certainly feel much better quality. The discs im less sure about |

| Posted: | | | | What I hat with R1 DVDs is when the top sticker with the DVD name on it is glued to the top of the paper cover because the latter one was loking out from the plasic cover. In this case you need to be careful not to destroy the paper cover while removing the top sticker. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | I really hate the packaging that has stickers on all 3 sides, top, bottom and the side that opens. Talk about overkill.
Plus you really have to look carefully to see if the paper artwork is connected to the stickers at all. If it's been sealed for a long time and it's attached to the paper insert, well no matter how careful I am there will always be damage to the artwork. |

I have yet to receive one that has been packaged with 3 stickers to my recollection. I would like to meet the person who came up with that packing idea. And stick one on there mouth and one on.....well i will leave ppl to fill in the blanks on that |

And if you think that that is overkill, once you get those annoying stickers off of all three sides, you then have the security stickers inside the case to deal with...sometimes 2 of them...the thin long one on one side and the thin, square one on the other side which is a real bitch to get off completely . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Those security stickers are supposed to deter theft, but everytime I go into Big Lots in the nasty part of town, there's lots of empty cases with cut stickers on all 3 sides. Bottom line, they don't work and only end up making it harder to open for those who bought. Sadest thing is they still use them. I would think they have to know they don't work well at all to deter theives. Some have been razor cut, probably by pro-thiefs, others just ripped in half in the store, by someone who just wanted that film. Either way, it stops no one and is a waste of our time and their money. |

I have learnt to go to the supermarket first and post office second, if I'm going to collect e.g. a parcel from Amazon with a Criterion BD. Just to avoid holding up the queue. I was quite baffled when the alarm went off the first time | | | Last edited: by Ranavalone |

There deterrent is security cameras and there own personal in house security guard at the door. Saying that HMV is now not that great a place to buy DvDs. There prices are a complete rip off. | | | Last edited: by ShinyDiscGuy |

Seriously is it that hard to package a DvD properly! In life's Top Ten of small, annoying, crappy things, this is right up there with the worst of them. Good call! Whoever came up with the 'helpful' "PULL" instruction on the sticker (along with it's equally helpful arrow) needs to be taken outside and given a serious talking to. | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. So I'm an anarchist, deal with it. Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted... |

I was quite baffled when the alarm went off the first time I've tripped the alarm exiting my local Target Store on many occasions and have never, ever been stopped or approached by the store security personnel. It's all a big joke and waste of money and resources if you ask me. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Sounds familiar, Pioneer Animations titles used to almost always be like that. On others, although pointless, the security sticker get off rather well. The worst are the alarm stickers inside, especially if the slap it in a cardboard of a digipack. Or sometimes its inside the plastic cover so you cant even get it out.
Hong Kong releases are worse though. Although they dont treat you with security features, they treat you with e.g. Slip Covers. Only thing is they sometimes forget to add the inner cover too, and sometimes they forget to add glue to the Slip Cover. The plastic cases they use are pretty much the worst in the market.
The best and highest quality DVD's i have are from Korea. | | | Last edited: by whispering |

The best and highest quality DVD's i have are from Korea. Limited editions and special editions, look very aesthetically pleasing. But are very often terrible in terms of practical storage of DvDs. Examples of this being the Evil Dead: Book of The Dead Limited Edition, Phantasm: Limited Edition Sphere box set, Hell Raiser: Limited Edition Puzzle Box box set. There where so many limited editions coming out at one point. I almost thought there be a limited pinball machine edition of The Accused Special editions such as Taxi Driver really annoy me. I hate disc trays that house two discs one lapping over the other. So one disc surface ends up hanging over the top of the other disc. It's such a petty cost cutting trick, and they use the whole the saving the planet spiel to justify it. | | | Last edited: by ShinyDiscGuy |
