I am so far away from the Christmas spirit it is unreal! So not into it this year... my mood is so down! I don't know... maybe it is because I realized this morning just how close it is to the anniversary of my wife's death. Or maybe it is how bad the economy is right now. Or the mixture of the two. But I am just so down and out.

Anyone else having a hard time (near impossible) getting into the Christmas/Hanukkah/Yule Time spirit?

I never liked the holidays.

When you visit your relatives (parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles) at any normal weekend it's usually a good time. One eats, one talks and has a nice time.

But as soon as the visit is labelled as something official (Easter, Christmas) all hell breaks loose. Becasue everything has to be perfect, everyone has to wear their best clothes. Tensions are running high and at some point the volcano always errupts.

I used to love the holidays... but not for quite some time now. It just seems this year it is worse then it has ever been before.

Thanksgiving, I just hate. It always seems to be the most depressing day of the year for some reason.

I like the general vibe of Christmas time, but I'm not into the religious celebration of it. And it's so overly commercial now that it really gets sickening when many stores begin to put out Christmas related items for sale even before Halloween has passed by.

I know what you mean, will be 2years next month that I lost my wife and the holidays are hard. But my kids tell me to keep my spirits up. They have been a real help.

I seen some Christmas items in Sept. and Halloween items out in Aug this year and I believe one store was Big Lots.Every year it gets earlier and earlier.

Sorry for you lose!

For me it will be 16 years on the 17th of this month. I know... that is a long time... but hey... we met at age 11 and been together since age of 12. Even at such a young age... we spent many years together.

From personal experience living in the Pacific North West only a couple hours from Canada, a Vitamin D deficiency can cause depression and a general lack of interest in anything. Don't know where you live but it can be a factor if you live up north with the general lack of sunshine during the winter months. If you suspect your mood might be affected by a Vit D deficiency, try picking up some Vitamin D3 in gel cap form and take 2k - 4k IU during a meal once a day for a few days.

Pete, it's all the stress you've been under trying to decide which DVDs to watch next

I enjoy the holidays in the sense of being able to spend them with family... particularly the young ones who still have that Santa-driven Christmas spirit.  What I don't like is how overly commercialized it is.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

He who MUST get the last word in on a pointless, endless argument doesn't win. It makes him the bigger jerk.
