You give away, sell, or lose DVDs from your collection. This logically means they don't belong in your Owned category anymore.

So, what do you do with them? Do move them to a "No Longer Owned" category? What about moving them back to Wishlist and creating "sold/given/lost" tags? What about a combination or none of the above?

For a long time I didn't even think about getting rid of parts of my collection. But with the switch to BluRay came the double dips, so what to do with the DVDs.

As long as they are still in the process of being given away (sorted out, but still in my home) I move them to a custom category ("For Sale"). When these finally find a new home I completely remove them from my collection-list.

This somewhat ruins my purchase statistics but for knowing that I once owned the DVD I tag the BluRays as "Upgrade"

I'll just delete them outright, but carry over the watched stats and note what they were on the upgrades. For example, something I first watched from the library on dvd, then the blu-ray, followed by me finding the BD to buy cheap. So the watched I'll tag the notes with "library dvd" or "library bd" or cable or whatever I watched. Kinda wish I had kept the what I paid and when I paid once in a while, but usually don't miss it much.

The watched category is probably one of the most important elements of Profiler .. I would update the listing as best as can be before moving it into the want side...  then when and if you ever replace it the history of the said title itself is still there ..

Even Titles I watch on broadcast TV or Netflix I make a want title of that title with the date I watched and with whom..  that information comes in handy 5 or 6 years later when you are trying to determine if you or others saw the title in question ..
Right now I am watching /and have on in the background -  The DeerHunter .. I have no interest in pulling that dvd from my collection to watch by its own.. but if nothing else on TV right now and I haven't seen it since the 80's .. I'll be sure to mark the info on the one I do have of when 'last watched' ..

If you have dvd's in your library you own for years and years but Never watched or even placed into a dvdtray  but sell or trade it eventually  make sure of these notes and then move it to want with a vague interest button activated ..

I don't have many, but there are a handful of upgraded movies I have given away. Like others, I move them to a special sold/donated category so I still have access to the stats: watched/paid for mainly. If I watch a movie in another medium, I don't count it toward the disc I have, so I like to have the last watched stats especially. I can see if I've watched a particular movie which might make me choose another one to watch, but I judge each DVD on it's own merit and want to watch each one for quality so don't mark it as watched until I actually watch it even though I've seen the movie itself before.

I move stuff to a "Previously Owned" category, where I put a note about how it was sold/lost/given-away. I also make sure to change the disc count to zero. I like seeing a history of my purchases.

Ones I plan on getting rid of, I move over to a custom category. Once they're gone, then I will delete.
