I was reading the thread about what people do in Profiler when they lose or sell DVDs and it made me wonder how people can actually lose them, (other than have then stolen).

This got me thinking and I realised I’d only ever ‘lost’ one DVD.  I was watching it with someone when she just got up, went over to the DVD player, took the DVD out of it and violently threw the disc out of the window; (I was living on the third floor of a block of flats at the time).    I think she found some of the characters so annoying that she couldn’t bear to watch a moment more of it, or for anyone else to ever have to either.  (I wish I could get that ‘in’ to most of the films I watch.)

Has anyone else ever lost a DVD (or Blu-ray or video)  in an unusual, weird or bizarre way?

Oh yes, the movie was “Meantime” by Mike Leigh.

Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

Well to be fair, I think most of the respondents were talking about selling than actually losing them... For me, I think I've lost one once but that's about it.

I never truly lost one... I have misplaced one before on a couple occasions. But never for very long.

Usually what I do is give them away to friends and family.

Let's see, I sat on one once (it was on the edge of the bed - don't ask ...  )

And then there was the one that got caught up in my Sony changer (the old VGP series).

Not weird or bizarre, but probably unusual...

There are at least 2 DVD's I haven't seen since I moved into my current house 8 years + ago.  They may be in a box under something else???  Family Man and Remember the Titans are the 2 that spring to mind.

Another disc has gone missing despite my having the case present and accounted for:  Curious George.  I have no clue.

I guess if I were really anxious to watch any of these again I'd go on "safari."

Had a few go missing at the old place, blame bad roommates. Other than that, when I was done watching "The Item" I took the inserts out of the case and threw them and the dvd directly into the trash, never to go back to. The movie was so bad I couldn't imagine anyone else wasting time on it and felt like I was doing the world a favor by throwing this piece of shiitake mushroom out. Too bad it was only one copy and no the only copy. I still cringe when I think back to that flick, at least it had a good replacement case.

My daughter took a few to college with her (each year a few more; none have returned). We made a list, but I suspect I will never see them (in my collection) again. Once she settles wherever after college, I will inventory what I have and eliminate (from my Profiler) those which have been abducted.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I can only think of two.

I bought Three Kings watched it at friends house.  I hated it so much I just left it there and never looked back.

Second my son misplaced UP almost a year ago.  I have searched the entire house and still haven't found it.

A former roommate of mine has 3 of my DVDs that ended up with her stuff (Quest for Camelot, Spirit: Stallion of Cimarron and Road to El Dorado).  She told me I can come pick them up any time, but she lives over an hour away in another state.  I told her to bring them over when she comes to the shop, but so far she's forgotten every time.

In all honesty, if I ever really want them I'll just pick them up at the shop.

I also once lent a copy of Jin-Roh to a good friend and he lost it.  That one I replaced on Ebay and I don't loan out any more.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

I think we all deserve an explanation; you can't start a story and not finish it...

I really want to watch this film now, just to see why it was so bad.

Quickly followed by this one.

Where was it?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Under a TV cabinet pushed to the middle, moved the cabinet for a thorough cleaning and UP it went.

I've lost 2...that I know of.

First was The Dark Knight, which I discovered was MIA when I went to re-watch it just before The Dark Knight Rises came out. I have the 2-disc DVD edition and the 2nd disc was in the case, but I'm at a complete loss as to where the movie disc could've gone. Fortunately, I had the Digital Copy on my laptop, so I was still able to re-watch it before catching the finale. I eventually replaced it when the single-disc version went on sale for $4, since the single disc is identical to disc 1 of the 2-disc set (and now I have an empty backup keepcase!)

Second, which I just discovered last week, is the Hunger Games. I picked up the 3-disc Target exclusive blu-ray back on release date. I just noticed that I apparently never put it in with the rest of my collection and can't find where I did put it. It's in the house somewhere, but I have no idea where. Sometimes when I buy new movies, I hide them from the wife for a while so she doesn't think I'm spending too much $$. Then, over time, I'll gradually just "slip" them into the collection. Unfortunately, Hunger Games is eluding me right now, but I will find it!

EDIT: And Hunger Games has been found!

Ah yes, a scenario which is not unfamiliar in Mole Towers. Our collection is distributed between MT, Oxford and Exeter universities.

At least you have a list!

But I have a plan. I now buy mostly BluRay........ the mesdemoiselles Mole only have playback facilities for DVDs!

Until the young ladies tell you they need a new laptop for college and the new one has a Bluray player in it.  LOL
