Ever since my mother died I’ve lived with an animal companion, a cat called Penny.  Last night I was watching a DVD* and Penny (as always) had curled up on my lap to ‘watch’ it with me.  Penny and I had quite divergent tastes in films, so generally she’d do this and then fall asleep.  At the end I noticed that she wasn’t really responding to my making a fuss of her anymore.  I put her on a soft cushion next to me and it was soon clear that she wasn’t going to be waking up again.  She was 18 and hadn’t been well for a couple of weeks, so I 'd known she wasn’t going to be around for much longer.  About three quarters of an hour later as I was gently stroking her, she quietly died.  I wrapped her up in her favourite blanket with her favourite toy.  I think it might be a while before I watch anymore DVDs, as since Penny came to live with me I don’t think I’ve watched a single one that she hasn’t sat and watched with me too.  She was a part of what made watching them fun.  I will miss her a lot.

Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

I'm sorry!  That's a tough thing to go through. My kitty right now loves to do the same thing while watching TV and DVDs. He even loves to play with the DVD player and I can't imagine losing him. It sounds like she had a good life with you...

Sorry to hear of your loss.

My cat almost always sits or lays right by me whenever I watch TV/Movies. Even if he's somewhere else, he always seems to know when I start watching something...and comes in and stays for the duration.

My condolences. I lost my cat, Tenzing in early February. She had been sick for most of a year. It happened over night and she didn't seem to suffer which is all I could ask. She was less fortunate then your tabby as she died at 12 years - middle age I think for felines. Good luck to you this year.

My thoughts are with you; I know how hard it is to lose a loved family member such as Penny... may you just remember the good times.

I'm sorry for your loss.
It sounds like she had a great life and one of the most desirable ways to die. (Painless, comfortable, warm, in good company...) Despite the pain of the loss this is something of worth.

Loosing a loved PET always creates a HUGe hole in my heart for days on end ..  But I always replace the pet with another (of the same) and it instantly cheers me up as the new pet is a ( to me) reincarnation of my lost pet  and I relive the same experiences (and some new)  with my new friend ..

Cheer up and think how lucky you were to not only have your friend as long as you did (18?  x 7 = 126 years old!) .. cause usually my pets get sick,, ...or have an untimely accident  which is never good..
But to have her pass away in your arms listening to the 'angelic music'  of Angelo Badalamenti  is to me .. Love in the most highest regards........

I would have to agree, being with her, doing the thing you enjoyed, how else should it happen?

I can only imagine what you are feeling, but best wishes for you

Sorry to hear about this But it seems she had  along  and good life and she dies quietly without pain and you by her side.

I agree with widescreenforever, in time you should get a new companion to watch the next 18 years movies with you
