| Posted: | | | | I agree with this, but I still make exeptions. On the German Backcover of "La Bamba" what is about Ritchie Valens, they write his name Richie Valens without the t in his first name. I find, when a film is about a star, a film about him, then the name must be written without spelling errors what nerves every person downloading the profile. Such spelling errors shouldn't really happen. I can understand that it can happen in normal words, but the main person in the film and written wrong.... tsss.....

Fritz And you are welcome to correct it in any way that pleases you...once you download it. Online it must reflect what is included in the disc materials. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

This is the main reason why I do not download anything from the online database. Searching all the errors contained in a downloaded profile takes more time than rebuilding it from scratch, since the problem "exactly as from the disc or the cover" is not only for the overview, but also for names in credits, movie titles, and many other fields. Curiously this stupid general rule may not be followed for aspect ratio which may be corrected if it is wrong on cover. With such rules, people who make correct profiles for themselves are not allowed to contribute them without useless extra work, and everything online is suspect to be wrong and has to be verified, so has strictly no real value. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | Ted See the rules and follow them it is very simple. You can correct a user generated error, you cannot correct anything else. It May or may not be an error in reality. You are dealing with data as it appears nothing more or less. You can do what you wish locally but do not contribute if it is outside the rules. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! We catalog DVDs as they are, not as someone would like them to be. Orthography is not the criterion, the DVD is. Changing the text would be data corruption not correction. | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect] |

Dvdprofiler catalogs movies on DVD or Blu-ray (and even on VHS if we want), but is unable to catalog DVDs with data, games or GPS... And cataloging movies means correct information about those movies... I do not think that, at the beginning, Ken wanted to name his program "Spellingerrorsprofiler"... | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | I read the "exactly as written" as: use the same words. Not: use the same errors. I have contributed overviews with corrected spelling errors without any problems. It also makes a lot more sense if you find the profile La Bamba when you search the overview in all profiles for the word Ritchie instead of getting no results. | | | Last edited: by No-way |

| Posted: | | | | Sorry... but the rules is exactly as on cover. This includes errors. What you contributed was wrong/bad data if you corrected any errors that exist on the cover. Any corrections made means it is no longer exactly as written... as it is stated in the rules. If you spell a word differently then it is written on the cover it is no longer exactly as written is it? This was even clarified by Invelos themselves, on more then one occassion. For example here is Gerri Cole clarifying it... Quoting Gerri Cole:Quote: Just to clarify.... This rule: "Overviews should match the back of the DVD case exactly" means that if there is a spelling error printed on the box, then you enter the overview with the spelling error.
This comment in the rules: "You are making a subtle change that may be hard to spot - for example spelling correction to the overview. "
Refers to the fact that if someone else has entered an overview previously (or you did) and you fat fingered something, then when you correct it, then you need to call it out in contribution notes.
This is to help the voters understand what you changed because it is not highlighted when they view the changes.
-Gerri See the clarification I put in bold. You do not correct anything in the overview... you contribute it to match the back cover exactly... including any and all errors. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Force The place for data to appear as you believe it should is in your local, NOT the online. The online is for hard data taken from the source material not data tha is otherwise manipulated or interpreted by a user. If that were allowed then we would have combat over competing interpretations. Do what you want but your interpretations are only for you. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it.
