| | Posted: | | | | I recently bought a dvd called Visions of Light: The Art of Cinematography.
The case has no UPC#, so I tried the Disc ID method, which came up as the same for the same documentary DVD in the database.
Main differences are that the artwork (front and back) is different and on the front cover it has "10th Anniversary Commerative Edition" above the title.
I would upload a picture, but my cheap camera takes blurry pictures.
So the question is: Are these types of "Not for Sale" promo discs allowed?
I don't see anything in the rules about them. |

How is it a re-release if it doesn't have a UPC? Wouldn't he just submit a new profile with the Disc ID? Typically yes, but not always. It depends on the type of promo release it is. An example is the 3D version of Avatar (not the latest release version) where there is no UPC and it is in the DB by Disc ID and with the cover art of the promotional release. Some "Promo" copies are exactly like the regular, but given as promotional copies |

He also said he bought the DVD, I assume he bought it used but nevertheless it isn't the one in the DB. Currently it looks like this movie has only two releases, one in the US and one in Australia. If I was the OP I'd make a new profile using the Disc ID and scanning in the correct covers along with the other data.
