A year ago, I was visiting the "Phnom Rung" temple or more correctly Prasat Khao Phanom Rung in Thailand...
At this time they recorded a Hollywood movie up there and I was like a child and had the time of my life...  My girlfriends Thai family did not quite understand what I was so incensed over, but this was like a kid's dream for me, had I been alone I would have camped up there until they were finished with the footage and asked if I could not help making the movie ..

When I asked they said they were doing recordings of the Scorpion King, afterwards I just had to buy this movie. After a little more investigation it turned out to be "The Scorpion King 3", now I had to buy two more movies, to jump right into part three seemed a bit strained ...

Before I got started on the trilogy, I have now discovered that this is a Spinoff from the Mummy movies, and now I wonder if I need to see them also to get full benefit of the action?

This is what I have found out about the movies:

1999 The Mummy
2001 The Mummy Returns (Here Comes The Scorpion King Mathayus into action and they make a spinnoff)
2002 The Scorpion King (follows Mathayus from 5000 years BEFORE The Mummy)
2008 The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
2008 The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior (here follow a young Mathayus, prequel to The Scorpion King 1 movie)
2012 The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption (Sequel to The Scorpion King 1)

Can I jump right into the Scorpion movies without seeing Mummy first, without missing out on so much?

Think the Mummy movies are not so interesting to me, but Scorpion King movies seems a bit more like warrior novie than horror movie, and that I might like pretty well ...
To be honest, had I not stumbeled over this making of the movie, this copy would not have found it`s way into my collection at all... but it shall be fun to watch the blu-ray movies from the temple

I haven't seen Scorpion King 2 or 3, but I have seen the other 4 films listed. Best I remember, Scorpion King is independent of the other Mummy films. Yes, he is featured in Mummy Returns, but you don't need to see it to understand Scorpion King 1.

Just as a note - these particular Mummy movies are not really horror. They are more supernatural adventure films in the vein of Indiana Jones.

Personally, the three Mummy films are much better than The Scorpion King. I've only seen the first SK though, so can't comment on the other two.

Thanks for replies

I tought Mummy was a slight horror, maybe I must give the Mummy a try..
Have Scorpion King 3 on blu-ray now, think I buy the number one and two on DVD..

I think this is from the Mummy:
I liked the head in the sand, but the scene where the tunnel is filled with spiders from a tiny hole in the ground was to much of a exaggeration, it doesent look real (hu I know it is fiction but I think you all know what I mean..  if they could come from everywhere it would have looked real..  same same with the Indiana Jones movies tough...    sometimes detail like this can ruin the movie for me
