I am making disc level profiles for a collection of silent shorts that I have.  This is the set in question:

The Forgotten Films of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle

My question is should I treat it like a film set, with the cast & crew only in the child profiles, since these shorts were originally shown in theatres?  The various Gaumont Treasures sets that have cast & crew done do it this way, and they are also collections of shorts.

Or should I treat this set like a television set, and list all the short films with their cast & crew in the parent profile?  The Looney Tunes sets do this, although they are theatrical shorts.

The only mention of shorts in the rules is in the Overview section:
Quote:
If the Main Feature of the disc is a collection of some kind (e.g. shorts, TV episodes, multiple films, etc.) rather than one single feature, a simple list of the collection contents may be added to the standard overview. Example:
1. Title
2. Title
3. Title

That, to me, means it should be treated as a single profile so I would put cast and crew in both.

IMO, the shorts should be treated as individual films for the reasons you mentioned.  The set should not be done in the manner of a TV set (and the Looney Tunes collections should be corrected).

From Box Set Rule:

"Exception: More than one movie on a single side of the disc should be entered as a single profile, as you would with TV Series. Use episode dividers for cast and crew."

The Overview Rule may then be followed (since "the Main Feature of the disc is a collection of some kind") to provide "a simple list of the collection contents" for each disc.

(And thanks for working on this set; I have it in my "to watch" pile, having heard good things about it!)

Theatrical shorts are a bit tricky. Personally I never bother with child profiles for things like the Disney Treasures and similar short film collections so I'm happy to have the cast and crew in the main profile. Since there are more than one short film on each disc in the set there is no way to do it "properly" with one profile per film anyway so why bother with it.

Of course, I don't bother with child profiles with TV series either so you can see where I'm coming from...

I have Disc 1 done, submitted and approved, and so far the credits are a snap.  No crew at all and all the cast is uncredited.  I'm hoping some of the later shorts will have credits.

I also hope that I get some more replies here.  The voting is just about evenly split...

Well, I now have all four child profiles done and we're still split 50-50 on including cast and crew for the parent profile.  I guess what I'll do is go ahead and submit the parent without the cast/crew, since that's the way I'm going to keep it locally.  Best to err on the side of caution.  With the child profiles done and attached it will be easy for people to copy over to the parent if they want the data there.

Thanks for your input folks.  I do hope we figure out what we should do with sets like this.
