Should The Hammer Collection be treated like The Criterion Collection and be placed in the MC field as well as the Edition field?

Example UPCs:
- 013131-068290
- 013131-068290
- 013131-107791
- 013131-050592

Let's visit The Criterion Collection's website and then let's visit The Hammer Collection's website.

I think you're teasing but the second is Hammer Collection - not The Hammer Collection.

Edit: But seriously, there are many Media Companies that do not have official web sites and are not a required to be entered into the database.

You're right, but I couldn't find a company called "The Hammer Collection".

No it's an edition Kathy. The only MC is Anchor Bay in those exemples.

Also notice that Criterion is a division of Janus Films, Hammer isn't a division of Anchor Bay.

The website thing was supposed to show that that The Criterion Collection is a company.

Technically The Criterion Collection has no business in the Edition field...

I couldn't agree more.

Actually, the rules specifically tell us that's where to put it:
Quote:
The Edition field is for distinguishing between DVDs, and for indicating special versions and collections (for example The Criterion Collection, Widescreen, Full-Screen Edition, Director's Cut).

So as far as the rules are concerned it goes in both Edition and MC.

I don't believe anybody said otherwise but, if we are being honest, the only reason The Criterion Collection is considered an edition is because they have the word collection in their name.

Fair enough.

It helps to distinguish for example my Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas from my Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: The Criterion Collection. I would agree if all Criterion titles were unique but since they licence all their material from other studios they often make different editions, which is exactly what the edition field is meant to track.

While that is true, the same could be said for other things that make a release different.  The fact remains, if they were called Criterion Home Entertainment, odds are we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Yeah, Martian nailed how I feel about it. I see it as the equivalent of naming editions "The Fox Collection" or "The Universal Home Entertainment Collection".
