Just another reason to hate the academy i guess. |

| | Posted: | | | | I enjoyed There Will Be Blood very much, because the character was perfect for his limitations. Combined with his approach of effectively living as if he was that character. It made for a stunning performance, and deserving of the recognition it received.
He probably knows how limited he is himself. So that's why, besides his other interests, he has became less and less prolific in his acting roles. Which is all fine and dandy.
But this though it has made him seem to the casual eye, a better actor then he really is. Especially now with his 3rd Oscar. That's not to say ether i think he has some sort of master plan to fool people, and fill his house full of awards.
But effectively the academy are telling us a man with 28 films under his belt. Most of which is pretty average at best. Is up there with Jimmy Stewart, who has 98 films under his belt, displaying a wealth of incredible talent and versatility.
I'm sorry but i don't buy that. |

For me, it isn't the number of films under their belt, but the quality of the films under their belt...though that shouldn't really matter as the award is supposed to be based on that one single role, not any other role they had. Jimmy Stewart always played himself in every role (the ones I've seen, at least). Thankfully, I loved his persona and always enjoyed his films.
The same can be said for many actors.
I'm not a huge fan of DDL...but there's no way you could compare his performance in Last of the Mohicans with My Left Foot or My Beautiful Laundrette.
He is a true actor. Someone who becomes the role he is playing. While watching him I forget who he is and see the character.
I can't say that for other actors such as Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Liam Neeson or Harrison Ford (to name a few).
However, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I personally think that Jennifer Lawrence is highly overrated! |

Donald Trump is with you.  He was going on about Daniel can't act and isn't American and how you can always hear his accent no matter what role he plays. I can see both sides, but Bill the Butcher was the shiitake mushroom and one of the best performances I've ever seen. I have an affinity for that film, just because of what it could have been. I get the feeling if the story had been fleshed out more, and the narrative was much tighter (change a few actors to). It could have been a masterpiece. I don't know to much history about the film, but i get the impression Scorsese was sitting on this one for a long time. It almost felt like it was an epic he was going to make during the New Hollywood period. One can only wonder what it would like, if that was the case. Amsterdam played by De'Niro, Fonda maybe being coaxed out to defy his age, and play against type again, as Bill the Butcher. Jenny played by Faye Dunaway. |
