OK... I just added to a profile for Misfits: Season One. The Director of Photography was Chris Ross. He didn't exist, so I added him. I just received Misfits: Season Two today. The Director of Photography (at least for the first two episodes) is Christopher Ross. Now, I guess it COULD be a coincidence, but I kinda doubt it. So... who is the actual person, and who is credited as?

(sigh) I liked it better when I was just along for the ride. No more new stuff for me.

ETA I just checked the Credit Lookup Tool, and it shows Chris Ross as DoP for all 7 epsiodes in Season Two, and Christopher Ross as somebody completely different. So...

Does that mean that the Profiler record in this case should be Chris Ross credited as Christopher Ross?

IMDB shows them as the same person. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2131733/

To determine the common name, you'll need to use the credit lookup tool (CLT).

"Chris Ross" is credited in the following 12 titles (19 profiles)
"Christopher Ross" is credited in the following 19 titles (77 profiles)

Since Christopher Ross has more titles to his name, this is the common name. So for Season 1, He would be listed as Christopher Ross, credited as Chris Ross.

For our purposes, the common name is the most credited variation of the person's name in our database. Occasionally the CLT results are mixed up (for example counting the same movie as more than one title) so results may need to be cleaned up. Or sometimes, different profiles of the same movie/show may list different name variations (usually because they took the data from IMDB instead of from the DVD/Blu-ray). When this happens or the CLT results are too close to call, we might need a thread where we verify each credit to determine a common name.

It looks like there's more than 1 Chris/Christopher Ross, too. If the most commonly credited name of all the Chris Ross' is Chris (or Christopher), then a birth year will be needed. The actor Chris Ross from the TV series I Spy (1960's) has a 1945 BY, according to IMDB. The other actor Chris Ross from the movie "Like It Is". 3rd Chris Ross has Visual Effects credits. 4th Chris Ross is the one you're asking about, the Director of Photography. It looks like only the 1st Chris Ross I mentioned has a BY.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

Thanks a BUNCH huskersports.
I thought this was beginning to make sense.

I saw the results that Rizor posted from the CLT, but interpreted them backwards. Where did you find the other two?

The big question is how do I fix my screw up?
1) It seems neither Chris Ross nor Christopher Ross WAS in my local database. Is that source different from the source of the CLT?
2) My guess would be to edit the existing crew record of Chris Ross to be Christopher Ross and then edit the appropriate credit records to be Christopher Ross credited as Chris Ross. Could it be that simple? Please?

Thanks for the guidance.

If you've (visually would be best) verified all of your Chris/Christopher Ross credits, then submit your profiles with those notes. 1 season/series is 1 credit, no matter how many disc-level profiles you have, but you can count each profile. Doing the legwork, I came up with Christopher Ross: 8 titles/91 profiles to Chris Ross: 3 titles/9 profiles.

1) What you have in your local database is your own database: the movies, the actors, crewmembers of the DVDs/Blu-rays that you own. The online database where the CLT results come from is pretty much the data from every DVD/Blu-ray that has been submitted.
2) Yes, you can edit the crew member's name from Chris Ross to Christopher Ross and it'll change to every profile he's credited in to Christopher Ross. But you'll still need to go and add Chris Ross to titles where he is credited under that name.
