I have one yes and one no vote for my update on The Mirror (Zerkalo).  The no vote is for my removal of Henry Purcell from the crew credits, which I did based on my understanding of the rules, however they don't exactly state what my understanding of them is.  So...

The Rule:
Composer:  Music by, Music Composed by, Score by, Score Composed by
Note: "Used for the composer of the film's Original Score"

The Credit:
"The music in the film is by Bach, Pergolesi and Purcell"
(at least that's what the subtitles of the credits read; the actual credits are in Russian)

My understanding was that the Composer credit was to be used only for someone who composed the score for the movie, rather than for a composer whose music was used in the movie but originally composed for something else.

The Mirror is from 1975.  Henry Purcell lived 1659-1695, so he obviously didn't compose for the film (likewise for Pergolesi 1710-1736 and Bach 1685-1750).  So, I either remove Purcell or add Bach and Pergolesi.  Which is it?

None of the three composed any "Original Music" for the film, so none should be credited in Profiler.

Since they were all dead centuries before the movie, they are all invalid according to the rules. I can't understand what the No voter is voting No for.

Remove Purcell. The no voter is incorrect in the matter. Original Score says it all.

If someone died 280 years before a film was made, I don't get how anyone could consider their works to be original to the film in question.
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

Agree with the others.
None of the three gets a valid entry.

EDIT:
I wonder what might have been the reason to vote "Add Bach and Pergolesi"?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Agree with the others. This is not music originally composed for the movie.

Thanks guys!  I've edited my notes to indicate that Purcell can't be an Original Score, and pointed to this thread for the screeners.

A little late to the party, but your understanding is correct.  The music must be an original composed for the film.

Related question, but do we also include songwriters for things like film adaptations of musicals? The songs aren't necessarily written for the film but are central to the material. Or how about musicals like "There's No Business Like Show Business" or "Singin' in the Rain" which are centered around songs not written for the film specifically?

@ Rizor:
Strictly to the rules we wouldn't enter them. Since they were not written specifically for the film.

For my local collection I handle this significantly wider:
If the film is the movie variant of the stage musical with its original music I enter the composer(s).

Examples:
West Side Story in my local has Leonard Bernstein as Composer and Song Writer, because the score was written originally for this musical.

Mamma Mia! doesn't have Ulvaeus and Anderson listed, since here the songs weren't even written specifically for the Musical
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Thanks for your thoughts. I'd figured as much but thought there might be some exceptions for special cases like musicals.

I wish there were.

I'd be among the first to vote "Yes" on a rule amendment.

I do the same, as I see no difference than crediting the author of a stage play that is made into a film.
This total lack of consistency is why I contribute very little any more. After I fix a profile to my liking it might not pass the rules and I got better things to do make a version for the online db and one for my collecti0on.
