I got a lovely pile of DVDs from my mom for my birthday!  Yay!  Most of them are not in the database, but that's alright.  The first one I decided to make a profile for leaves me with an odd question, however.

Saving the Ocean with Carl Safina: Shark Reef and The Sacred Island

The official website for the production company tells us that PBS first aired the episode in 2012.  Great!  A pretty authoritative source for the production year, I thought.

However, the release date for the DVD is June 2011, according to Amazon.  2011 is also the copyright date for PBS Distribution on the package.

So, do I go with the DVD date for the production year (treating it as a "direct to video") or the 2012 airdate, since it is part of a TV series?

Unusual.  I'd go with the June 11 date.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Did you see review, Marine conservation made intelligible April 20, 2011, By Greenlight. Stated that the series was currently running now, 2011. It didn't run in the Phoenix area until April, 2013. A good series.

I'll agree with tweeter.

If this was a direct-to-home-video release with a subsequent airing I would also go with the DVD release date.

Agreed.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.
