My latest contribution got declined.
Stated reason: "Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were non-specific. Please specify the exact source for your changes."

Just wondering what's required these days for DVDs that are not in the database and that someone wants to contribute to said database. A photo of the submitter holding the newly purchased DVDs?

Contribution Notes

When you contribute a changed profile, you are required to include Contribution Notes. Use the space to enter full explanations for all changes and/or additions that you make. Make special reference to any changes where:

  • You have verified there is a discrepancy between the box and the actual content of the DVD - include your verification method.

  • You are making a subtle change that may be hard to spot - for example spelling correction to the overview.

  • You are removing incorrect information.

  • Contribution Notes provide an explanation of your changes to other DVD Profiler users and Invelos for voting and deciding whether to accept your contribution, so make your notes useful and descriptive.

Sorry, but I'm not changing a profile. I'm submitting a DVD with a UPC that's not in the database.

I don't understand what has changed with submissions recently.

The approvers want you to state the source of all of your contributed information.  Such as where did the cast and crew come from (i.e. the actual film credits, cloned from another profile, or another source), where did the overview come from (the back cover or somewhere else), where did the release date and SRP come from (press release, a web site, or somewhere else), etc.

If you read what was quoted in the rules you will see it says do full notes  for all Changes and/or Additions. You are making an addition to the database. You need to write complete notes for these profiles no differently then any other.

As I said in another thread like this one just earlier today... I have done this every since I first started using DVD Profiler (13 years ago)... and I can't remember the last time I got one declined.

I just added 8 new profiles in the last 2 days.  They're all PBS documentaries.  My contribution notes are the same for all of them:
    Quote:
    initial contribution for this UPC
all information from package & disc
srp & release date from amazon

For an initial contribution I don't do cast & crew.  I'm interested in getting the title into the database quickly.  I go back later to do cast & crew.

From my experience it seems that the hiccups with getting contributions accepted are with cast & crew.  The only accurate source is the actual film credits, with a secondary acceptable source being to clone from an already existing profile of the film/show (which should always be checked against one's own copy of the disc).  If a contributor is taking that information from any other source (package, website, imdb, etc) the contribution will (and should) be declined.

Not saying you did that, or anything, but in my experience that seems to be the most common problem.

Thanks for the info. Never had to do this before.

I'll have to consider contributing the absolute bare minimum going forward, due to the extra time involved.

I used to be able to do that for new contributions and I too usually don't worry about cast and crew on the first submission.  However, about 6 months ago or so I had initial contributions declined even if I stated "all information from disc & package".  So, I've started to cite the source for every change/addition even for initial contributions.

That's about what I usually do too for an initial contribution.

If you do decide to contribute more than a basic contribution just state where you got the data from.

    For example:

SRP and release date taken from amazon.com.
    Computer read disc id/layers.
Cast and Crew copied directly from the DVD credits.
The rest of the data for this new contribution came from the DVD cover.

Ideally Cast and Crew should come from the credits. But, one is allowed to copy that data from the invelos database.

In that cast I would document that I copied Cast and Crew data taken from the invelos database and give the UPC number.

That's all I do as well.

I would open a ticket of I got such a decline.  Because other the SRP and release date "all information from disc & package".  Pretty much says the source on an initial contribution.

Although if you are initially putting in cast and crew you should also put where they came from, whether cloned from a UPC or from the end credits.
