My definition of "vanish" is that you seemingly looked everywhere but were not able to find it at that time thinking it is lost forever. You may find it much later on, but for the time being it seems lost.

I haven't watched any movies for a while because I have 1,000 hours of TV episodes to catch up on first. But I was looking for a specific one today, and I wasn't able to find it. Right now my organization is a mess, but I don't have a whole lot of spots where I store my DVDs, so I felt like I looked through them all. A few minutes after reading off all of the names quickly to find that one title, I realized there is another that I didn't see.

No one had been around here in a while that I feel would steal any of them (and even if there had been, what are the odds of those two being picked off.) There are no obvious gaps on a shelf, and I'm not yet sure if those are the only titles missing, but I don't feel like doing a full inventory right now. So, I'm confused.

Has anyone else ever had DVDs just come up suddenly missing?

Not a DVD, but a couple of years ago I opened up a KMFDM CD case and it was empty.  Still haven't found the disc - I know it has to be in another CD case, but obviously it's one I haven't listened to in quite some time.  I'm also missing a Libana CD, case and all.

Lost a couple of Midnight Syndicate CDs (case and all) for several years too, but they turned up in a Ravenloft module box.
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Yep, had that recently looking for a couple of dvds.

Daft thing was I looked at a particular set of shelves (three high that hold approx 80 dvds per shelf) and couldn't see them. A couple of days later looking for something completley different on those shelves and first thing I saw was the ones I'd been looking for previously.

I had disc 1 of my Dark Knight 2-disc set vanish without a trace. It's been almost a year since I discovered it's disappearance and I still haven't found it. Fortunately, the missing disc is the same as what is in the 1-disc version, so I did eventually replace it when that one went on sale for under $5.

Yup! And not just DVDS. According to Madame Mole it's called "having a Senior Moment" when I lose it, and "so, it was in the study/garage/car/jacket pocket all the time!" when it turns up.....

Ha, I think she and the girls hide them deliberately.....they're trying to drive me mad I tell you.

I'm pretty sure someone broke into my flat and just stole the box set containing the first two Men In Black films.  Whoever did it even deleted the entry from my copy of Profiler and updated the online version too.

What a weirdo!

I had to by myself 'another' copy to 'replace' the 'stolen' one.  However, I've thrown it away now as I was so scared by all the disagreements about the title...
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

I've had two disappear. One I found, one I didn't. The one I found was on the shelf, but had a different name than what I was looking for and since I sort them alphabetically, I had to stumble on it to find it. The other one I swear I bought, but it is not in profiler or on the shelf so I may be just dreaming about owning it, but I am almost positive I did buy it. Have a feeling it's somewhere and one day it'll just pop up. Probably the day after I find it in the dollar bin and rebuy it.

I still can't find my Naruto Disc 2. That's about four or five years it's been missing now. That'll teach me not to put it back in the box.

Sounds like you were burgled by the same person who took my Men In Back box set; same MO.

I misfiled a title like that recently too.  I spend ages looking for my Nightmare on Elm Street box set, only to find I'd filed it under A Nightmare on Elm Street.

For me it was a kid's cartoon title that has sequels. Was looking for it in the 'L's and it was in the 'G's as instead of being "Land Before Time X: Great something something" it was "Great something something: Land Before Time."

It must have been the same person...they're sneaky that way!

A few years back, had a rather strange thing happen. My copy of Fahrenheit 9/11 went missing. I'm always careful with my disks so it perplexed me. Then, a week later, my aunt told me something weird, her copy of Fahrenheit 9/11 also went missing. Two of my cousins - same thing. My uncle, too. And my brother and sister-in-law. All this happened over the course of about 2 months. All our copies of the same movie... Odd, hunh?

Actually, not so odd. My mother had visited all of us within weeks of the disks going missing. When I asked her if she knew anything about it - she denied it, adding that she would have nothing to do with such filth. Still, I think we all know what happened to our disks...

Dunno if I've lost anything or not, but misplaced? (sigh)

I'd watched something right before I fell asleep, so I left the disc in the player. Then, a couple days later, I wanted to watch something else. Rather than find the original case for the disc that was in the player, I stuck it in the case from the movie I wanted to watch that night. So now, I either have a case with two discs in it and another with no disc, or I lost one case, have a second case with the wrong disc in it and lost the other disc.

Of course since I don't remember any of the specifics, no problem, right?
