Hello

Do we contribute crew credited as "Script By" and/or "By"?  If so, as what?  (There are no other writing credits at all.)

Thanks.

Paul
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

"Script By" for me is a variation of "Written By".

Whether or not this qualifies for an entry in the maindatabase ... <Shrugs>

A simple "By" can mean practically anything so I wouldn't enter this at all.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I would say that "Script by" is a screenwriter credit.  If I see "By" in the credits with no other writers credited I would see that as shorthand for "Written by".

The "By" credit is very common on UK television programs. Usually the title screen has the program or episode title with a "By John Doe" underneath. It translates to "Written by" and is typically reserved for original works. I agree that "By" in itself doesn't mean much, but it's a well understood convention and should still be valid.

One program that jumps to mind is "Doctor Who" which has credited its writers this way for 50 years.

The only non-UK title I've seen the "By" credit on is 1973's "The Sting", but the film also has a proper "Written by" credit at the end.

Hello.

Thank you for your thoughts.

This is in relation to Dad's Army, which I'm slowing making my way through.

It has the two 'writers' credited as By in the opening credits and Script By in the end credits.  At present the accepted contributions have them listed as "Written By", so I'm inclined to leave things as they are.  If it's good enough for Doctor Who it's good enough for me!
