I was wondering what everyone thought about the need for a child profile for the On the Waterfront Blu-ray?  There is a second disc which contains two other version of the film--the differences is that they are each presented with different aspect rations than the version on disc 1.  The reasons I would say yes is that 1) it is on a separate disc with a separate Disc ID, and 2) as of now the profile does not reflect all of the aspect ratios on the disc.  The only reason I could imagine to say no is that there is no cast or crew difference.

Anyone have thoughts?

Yes, I think it'd be optional similar to DVD combo packs and 3D combo packs.

Would an extra profile really help if there are two versions on one disc?

In a previous contribution I had set the aspect ratio at 1.66:1 since that was the main presentation listed on the back, with the alternate presentations noted in the extras. The aspect ratio has since been changed to include 1.66:1 and 1.33:1. This, however, omits the 1.85:1 presentation. I suppose a child profile could document the 1.85:1 and 1.33:1 versions. Though should the 1.33:1 remain in the parent profile?

Yes, simliar to how we profile pan & scan/full frame and widescreen in the same profile and because the child profile is optional.

Definitely go ahead; I think it would count as optional by the Rules but it does give people the option and (so long as all info is in the parent - I would personally include the other versions of the film as 'Other Features' myself) nobody has to use the child profile if they don't want to.
