Hello,

How do you know what the common name is for any cast- or crew-member?

For example:
'Patrick Selts'/'Pat Selts'. Played in 2 movies : 'The Last Marshal' (1999) and 'Midnight Crossing' (1988).
CLT result: (result before my contribution of 'Midnight Crossing / A Prayer for the Dying')
Pat Selts: 2/4
Patrick Selts: 2/3

How or where can you best look for the common name?
What I normally do:
1) I look it up in the CLT
2) I search the forum for the name
3) I search for the person on the net, and mostly I only find a good profile on imdb

Greetz,
Mitch.

#3 is of no matter and shouldn't even be done.

All you have to do is check the CLT. (with those numbers common name would be Pat Selts) Unless you can document that the CLT is wrong.  That is where the forum threads come in... if you suspect that the CLT is wrong you check for/open a thread for said person and verify the actual credits in the film itself. Depending on the person and if anyone participating in the forum has the titles to check you can go by the "true" common name.

Until you can prove the CLT wrong you go by the CLT totals.

Ok.
That seems logical to me and I will do so from now on.

But, what if you don't know there is another name possible, maybe the common name?
I should use only the one that I can verify with CLT and/or by my discs?
Example:
'Katrina Mathews': 2/7 = 'Beautiful Joe' and 'Cabin By the Lake / Return to Cabin By the Lake'
'Beautiful Joe' (1/6) = 'Katrina Mathews'
'Cabin By the Lake / Return to Cabin By the Lake' (1/1) = 'Katrina Matthews [Katrina Mathews]'
I only got the 'Beautiful Joe' movie, so I couldn't verify if it's the same person in the other movie, so I should use 'Katrina Mathews' for my profile.

In this case you simply go with "as credited".

In addition you may cross-check on other sources if this person uses multiple names and, if you found this to be true, find the common name from the CLT (Credit-LookUp-Tool).
Doing this for each and every entry can be somewhat cumbersome though.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

You will also notice the CLT is not always accurate when it comes to he title count.  This is because for a title to be unique the production year and original title must match.  What throws this off the most is the TV child profiles.

Sometimes it is best to manually count the titles that are in the CLT.  It should be obvious when this occurs.

Also there are cases where there are multiple people involved.  So sometimes you need to count that specific person if you want an accurate count.

But if you do take the CLT data and manually count specify that in your notes, to document how you found the raw CLT results to be incorrect.

FWIW, I just looked it up and I did the Cabin by the Lake profile. After finding a screenshot of her namesake in Beautiful Joe, I'm nearly certain it is the same actress. I'll try and get a screen from Cabin and see what others think, but the Joe screen isn't the clearest and she's covered in mud.
Maybe you could get a decent screen from that, or just tell me if this is the same girl:

Yes, I'm happy to see as many screenshots of her as possible...
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...
