| Posted: | | | | I understand that the box set rules state that:
If the Box Set has a rating, use it in the profile.
Do I use the box set rating across all the individual discs, if I am submitting individual disc profiles for TV box sets? Or do I use the rating on the front of the individual disc?
For example, Blake's 7 series 3 has 4 discs with a PG rating and 1 with a U rating. Blake's 7 series 4 has 1 disc with a 12 rating and 4 with a PG rating. I've been challenged for changing the rating from PG to U in the first instance and from PG to 12 in the second instance. However, Buck Rogers has 5 discs with a PG rating and 1 with a 12 rating. The accepted profiles have these ratings so I'm some what confused by the rules. What is the correct rule?
Do I rate all the discs as certificate 12 in the case of Buck Rogers (assuming the current profiles with a PG rating are wrong) or is it OK to individually rate each disc separately with the "correct" certificate rating? |

| Posted: | | | | So, for your example, if discs 1-3 have the PG rating on them and disc 4 has U, I would not see a problem with the individual disc-level child profiles being given the rating as indicated on the disc, as long as the parent box set itself is given the PG rating. | | | I don't wanna be like everyone else, that's why I'm a mod, see? |

Second, the individual discs of a box set or a TV season get their own rating if they have it. Outside America I believe every single disc has it's own rating symbol on it because every episode is rated by itself. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

Granted, the regular Ratings rules apply: Quote: Use the Rating shown on the DVD cover Maybe I'm overlooking something somewhere, but I don't see anywhere in the rules about substituting ratings from individual Disc labels. And the TV Series rules also don't specify any different Rating rules. | | | Corey | | | Last edited: by Katatonia |

| Posted: | | | | I always assumed that this: Quote: Create each of these individual profiles in line with the standard Contribution Rules meant that disc trumps box if there's a clash just like when you have a movie box set with two PG-rated movies and one 16-rated and subsequently the box has a 16-rating (in UK, Germany the box always has an explicit rating), the two movies would still get the PG rating that's printed on their discs. I honestly have never seen it done differently in contributions. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

I honestly have never seen it done differently in contributions. Okay, I guess it makes sense then when put that way. I've seen some single UK discs before that have one film on them, but two ratings on the cover, or a different rating on the disc label, so these foreign ratings get very confusing. | | | Corey |

Many UK profiles have two rating labels on the cover because the same disc is sold in the UK and Ireland without reprinting the whole thing. The circular rating is for the UK, the octagon is from Ireland. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | The fact that UK releases have two ratings is no different from R1 releases having both US and Canadian ratings. But two different UK ratings is a bit strange. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar | | | Last edited: by GSyren |

I've never seen one with two ratings used in that way, but it may be that the film is rated 15 and the extra features are rated 18. Normally I've seen this handled by a piece of text stating the film is rated x and the extra features y. Maybe they thought they would show it this way instead, although that's very confusing and not sure the BBFC would be happy with it. The other and more probable cause is a misprint. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Lithurge |

The other and more probable cause is a misprint. The Title is Mansion of the Doomed (5-028157-202431) It may be a misprint or something similar, because the coverart in the database only shows "15" on the front and it almost looks like a sticker. The ones in the database are not scans I did though...they're just relics from the Intervocative transfer of the profile back in 2007. I just pulled out my copy again, and it shows "18 on both the front and back. I thought for sure mine was the same, but it's only the online scan. So I don't know what the deal is with it in the online profile. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | Looking up the title on the BBFC website (it returns it as Massacre Mansion initially) it seems early video releases were rated 18, but for the last release the film was rated 15. All the same version, just the softening of their attitudes.
I think in this case the photo gallery extra is rated 18, they tend not to like gore or nudity that doesn't have context. which is why trailers will sometimes have a higher rating than the film. It's hard to be 100% sure as this was rated before they started gving detailed ratings for the extra features put on dvd's. There is a link to an item from the same release date which has no runtime nor details what it actually is.
I think you're right the 15 on the scan is a sticker, probably the distributor that stuck it there, but they really shouldn't as the highest rating that applies to all items on the disc should be displayed. This would probably explain why yours is correct. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Lithurge |
