| | Posted: | | | | The outrage was amusing (though perfectly understandable) when Windows 8 was released without the Start button... so much so that Micro$oft said they would add the Start button back in Windows 8.1
It was an odd choice, in my opinion. The OS is designed as a transition—not an outright replacement—between desktop and mobile devices, so it was a bit odd removing a key feature that millions of people had become accustom to having for 17 years.
Classic Shell is a great piece of software, in my humble opinion. For Windows 7, it gave the start menu a feel closer to that of Windows XP, and from what I can see, the Windows 8 version gives the feel of Windows 7. (I haven't tested it on a Windows 8 machine yet.) For those who miss the Start button, the software is definitely something that you should look at. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.
