Question is what would the original title be for Jack the Giant Killer, released first as The Giant Killer for rental in the USA. But later released under the full title Jack the Giant Killer (there was a lawsuit pending for Age of the Hobbits) so they changed a few titles for rental. Atlantic Rim to Attack from Beneath, Jack the Giant Killer to The Giant Killer, Age of the Hobbits to Clash of the Empires.

If the originally proposed title is used for commercial release is the original title still the rental title (1st public availability).

I would go with Atlantic, Jack the Giant Killer and Hobbits since that's how they were first released.  I did a few profiles and changed original titles for the Hobbits movie, with the lawsuits explanation in my notes.  Any change away from Age of the Hobbits, Atlantic Rim or Jack the Giant Killer should get a no vote.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

But the first release is the rental release, 1 to 2 weeks before sale of the videos. I would think that it would be an official title, same as a theater title that was changed for DVD releases.

I know Age of the Hobbits was sold at Wal-Mart by mistake, but Clash of the Empires had already been available at RedBox, Family Video etc. for a week. And since they sell used DVD's it was actually released first. The Giant Killer was available for a week then was pulled and changed to Jack the Giant Killer in rental when the DVD was released for purchase. The only one that has not changed is Attack from Beneath.

I would treat the rental titles the same as any other title and if they use the primary titles on later releases it should be treated as a Re-release title, and not a original title.

As long as each 2 pairings of titles end up with the same title/original title (CLT-wise), I'm fine with whichever one gets chosen.

That's what I want as long as everyone is on the same page, so CLT count is correct. Not 1/2 under one title and 1/2 under the other.

I own the The Giant Killer & Jack the Giant Killer. Attack from Beneath and Clash of the Empires.
Would like to get a Age of the Hobbits copy, may be a rare release title.

The Asylum Home Entertainment should be the Dist. for US DVD's. Haven't got a single one released by Gaiam/Vivendi as the media co. I've got 50+ of these mockbusters from The Asylum

Do these movies have these titles on purpose, so they can maybe scam some sales because of the name recognition? Atlantic Rim?!

The Asylum Home Entertainment should not be making, distributing, selling, or having anything to do with movies, DVD's, or entertainment.

Yep; that's why they do it. I don't usually get caught but a friend did give me Puss 'n' Boots as a present as he thought it was the Shrek spin off... it's a pretty scummy trick IMO.

That is exactly why they have these titles. You can see a pretty complete list here. Some are good for laughs, some are just a scam. Note stuff like Snakes on a Train and Transmorphers came out just before the real dvds of the movies they mock, with similar looking covers. No question all are attempts to cash in. But, they must get that cash as they keep churning them out. I actually liked #1 Cheerleader Camp which wasn't cashing in at the time (or I maybe missed the reference, but it seemed much later than Band Camp) as an original production, even if it didn't feel very original it was at least funny and full of hot girls in various stages of naked!

#1 Cheerleader Camp came out a few months after Fired Up came out on DVD.

I would put the companies that have taken classics and remade them in that statement also (Total Recall, Fright Night, I Spit on Your Grave, Texas Chainsaw, etc.)
