I'm trying to update the profile for "Addicted to Her Love" (741952686996) and in researching this, it appears to have had it's theatrical release as "Love Is the Drug". So Wikipedia and IMDB refer to it as "Love Is the Drug" aka "Addicted to Her Love".

"Addicted to Her Love" is all that's on the DVD cover, and "Addicted to Her  Love" is what the video opens with.

I've never used the "Original Title" before, but per the rules ...

"Modified Titles: The Original Title field will contain the original theatrical title"

It would seem that "Love Is the Drug" would go in the original title field and "Addicted to Her Love" would go in the title field.

Yes?

problem is the rules tells us where to get such info from....

Quote:
For profiles which have an alternate title displayed on the cover, use the title from the film's credits. For titles released outside their country of origin, use the original release title.

You point to the modified title rule... this title has not been modified for the release... it s under an alternate (completely different) title.

I personally wouldn't trust neither IMDb or Wikipedia for such information. Both are just like us... user added info... Most likely wiki got it from imdb (or the other way around) or the same person added it to both sites for all we know... with no idea where the info actually came from.

Between what is in the rules on where to get original title from and the sources you gave here... I would vote no.

This has naturally been discussed before. Let's just say that there is a difference of opinions, as usual.

the original title is Love Is the Drug  --  http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=loveisthedrug.htm

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/love_is_the_drug/

and from the Seattle Times (Limited theatrical release) http://seattletimes.com/html/movies/2003290827_love06.html

some people have a problem with believing that there might be a different title before DVD.

After re-reading the above thread I decided I don't have it in me to get into such a thing again.

So will just sum it up like I did in the other thread...

This is something I would vote no to since the rules state "For profiles which have an alternate title displayed on the cover, use the title from the film's credits." Per the way that rule is written I whole heartedly believe the info must come for the credits or not be used.

I have no problem believing such a thing... but also believe going by the rules as they are written it just don't matter.

The Original Title field serves two general purposes, but in both cases allows for the tracking of the original feature title. For profiles which have an alternate title displayed on the cover, use the title from the film's credits. For titles released outside their country of origin, use the original release title.
In cases where the title is the original title, leave the Original Title field blank.

whether it is an alternate title or a modified title, we are tracking original title of the feature film.

it amazes me how the rules have to be so in depth for people to do the obvious - an original title is not an alternate title that is the same on the case and the opening credits. Because they don't want you to realize that this movie sucked under the original title in the theaters, but under this new title they're hoping you buy it without realizing it.

Personally I think the rules need to be written as if a 5-year-old was going to contribute.

Thank you for researching the title for me to verify what I thought was the case.

To be fair, I knew in advance that the movie sucked. I blew the money on it specifically because it's was an early film giving Lizzy Caplan top billing. I've completely swooned over her with her current role as Virginia Johnson in "Masters of Sex" ...
