I have a number of DVD's and Blu-ray's where the back cover states:
Quote:
Distributed by Granada Ventures Ltd. trading as ITV Studios Home Entertainment.

On all of these, the name "ITV Studios Home Entertainment" is also consistently present in the form of a logo, usually both on the front and back cover and on the spine.

The rules on media companies say, among other things: "Some companies (using similar but different names) may serve more than one function. List such companies only once, using the name from the logo."

"Distributed by Granada Ventures Ltd. trading as ITV Studios Home Entertainment" indicates to me that it's one company, that is referred to by two name variants. So I guess we list this company only once, then, using "ITV Studios Home Entertainment" (= the name the from the logo")? And "Granada Ventures" doesn't qualify for entry here?

I'd probably list both.

Wouldn't dare to say that it has to be done this way though.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

From what little I could find, they share a similar relationship as WDSHE and BVHE.

It seems that Granada Ventures Ltd. owns the 'brands' and ITV Studios Home Entertainment distributes the media.  I believe that would make the former the licensor and the latter the distributor.

Long story short, I would probably list them both.

I don't see the problem of adding both if there's space. As far as I know, Granada merged with Carlton to form ITV. I usually see ITV listed as a licensor for some Criterion releases even when Ganada has a logo at the top of the film.

You're saying that they're two different companies. But instead, the actual credit of "Granada Ventures Ltd. trading as ITV Studios Home Entertainment" implies that they're one and the same company.

If that's the consensus, then I will. The only problem that I saw was that I felt it might be against the rules, which state: "List such companies only once, using the name from the logo."

No, I am not saying that they are two different companies.  What I am saying, based on what little information I could find, is that they act like two different companies...which is why I used the WDSHE and BVHE example in my post.

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Touchstone Home Entertainment, Hollywood Pictures Home Entertainment and Buena Vista Home Entertainment are, for all intents and purposes, the same company.  They do not, however, act like they are.  WDSHE, THE and HPHE all act as licensors while BVHE acts as distributor.  This situation seems to be the same so, just like I would with WDSHE and BVHE, I would list both in the MC field.

I'd probably list both, especially since the names are not similar. I've done this sometimes with Nordisk Film and Egmont Entertainment in Sweden when both companies are credited on the cover or disc.
