When i went on IMDB and checked out both 'Gravity' and 'The American Hustle' they was only nomited for 1 Oscar they said. And thats just plain wrong yes? Since at the oscars homepage they are nominated in many categories. From my count, 'The American Hustle' is nominatd for about 10 Oscars? Help me out here please. |

Popcorn was thrown and then a bullet. A bullet beats pop corn every time.
I have Captain Phillips on order and will buy 3d Gravity, I'm a sucker for space program films as I spent about four years working on NASA computers and use to have fly back Merritt Is. for some of the Apollo shots.
And will probably buy American Hustle, The Wolf of Wall Street, and couple more when I get around to checking them out.

One category that has me a little conflicted is for Best Animated Feature. My first instinct is to choose the excellent Frozen. However, the Academy has a tendency to award a career achievement with a final film. Given that The Wind Rises is the final film from acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki before he retired, I think that film has the potential to upset Frozen. I may have to wait until The Wind Rises is released here in the States on Feb 21 to finalize this category | | | | My phpDVDprofiler collection |

| | Posted: | | | | Last night I viewed Captain Phillips on Blu_Ray UPC 043396417816, Commentary with Director Paul Greengrass and all special features (about 60 min.) Capturing Captain Phillips: Embarkation, Full Head & Stand Fast and it was enjoyed very much.
Tom Hanks did his usual Oscar® performance as a captain. As did Barkhad Abdi) who play Muse the Somali pirate captain. He went toe to toe with Hanks.
They found the four Somalis who played the pirates in Minnesota. It seems there is the largest group of
Somalis in the US. The director said they have talented group musicians, dancers, etc there.
The shot on the sister ship of Marsk Alabama with very little graphic effects making it very realistic.

| | Posted: | | | | For a number of years, I participated in a DVD forum's Oscar pick contest. By using my best judgment with averaging out many film critics' choices, I would fall short by about two picks from each year's winner. One year, I looked over all the previous choices made by every critic I was averaging in, and I realized that had I simply repeated Entertainment Weekly's picks I would have won by three or four picks every year. The next year, that's what I did: my picks were what I read in EW. I won. I did it two more years, winning by four to five picks each year. I retired from the game as the only three time winner (no one else had won twice).
So my picks are whatever selections EW makes this year. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Simply put the Oscars is a publicity stunt by the elite of Hollywood. They always want something with more mainstream appeal when it comes to picking best picture.
I'm going with Gravity despite the fact i think that leaves a lot to be desired. Like i find 2001 is all visual and no substance behind it. I get it that a lot of people do like the pure cinematography approach. I respect that, but i find a film needs more to make it an enjoyable experience for me.
I could possibly be wrong as i say 50/50 with American Hustle. But i'm going with Gravity as i think they might want to pick something that's less drama orientated this year. |

You disregard the 4 US Production companies and only count Film4 Actually i just checked up on it, and does appear to be a US/British joint venture. |
