There is a submission up today for Angel Series 3, Region 1, US version. The Title of the DVD is "Angel: Season Three on DVD", which matches the cover.

The submitter is proposing that the Original Title becomes "Angel: Season 3" in order to get the CLT to match up with other localities. If it works (and I have no reason to suppose otherwise) then it is a positive use of the OT field.

However the question is whether it allowable under the current set of rules? As far as I remember, the words "Season 3" do not appear on the opening credits of Angel.

Discuss!

I would say, personally, that the 'on DVD' bit is unnecessary in the first place. So the Original Title field is not needed.

I have some sympathy with your point but the "on DVD" bit is on the front cover, so by the rules it should be included......I suppose.

The same contribution is made for the UK release. Title there is Season Three, and he is introducing original title Season 3. I thought he was trying to match the US release, but if he is also changing it there, on what is the “master“ title based on?

I wouldn't be against having a common naming schema for seasons (I am already doing it locally), but currently it violates the rules, imo.

Amusingly I have the R2 UK versions for the first two series, and the R1 US versions for the rest. The complete text on the R2 UK versions are like this:

  "Angel
Season One
DVD Collection"

whereas the R1 US versions are like this:

          "Angel
Season Three on DVD"

So a common naming scheme across all localities would have some merit.

But I'm not sure it's allowed.

I have to agree, not allowed under the current rules.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

This matter was previously addressed by Gerri Cole. You'll find it, including links to the thread where it was originally discussed, in the pinned "Collected Statements from Invelos on contribution discussions"-thread right here.
