Just the other day I was watching The Bridges at Toko-Ri (1954) with Mickey as rescue helicopter pilot, great film.
No TV when I was a kid, you would go to the Saturday matinee and probably see Judy Garland & Mickey Rooney and get a coke and popcorn all for 25 cents.

| | Posted: | | | | Though I have liked his work as child and adult actor, man he was versatile, he could be an absolute ass in real life.
A few observations:
Many years ago he was owner or co-owner (I forget which) of a local hotel in my area (Philly suburbs), which has long since closed. I met a few of the staff back in the 80s working there during the time he visited on occasion and they had VERY low opinions of the man.
Check out the audio commentary he made on the TZ BD set episode (done for DVD originally) of "Night of a Jockey." I felt so sorry for the interviewer.
I don't want to take away from any of his achievements but in some ways he was personally not a nice man. |
