Law & Order: The Fifteenth Year, Episode 24 - J.D. Jackson

Also you need to combine the counts for J.D. Jackson and J. D. Jackson together since the contribution filter will force the common name to be J. D. Jackson in both cases

thery are still 2 different name varients. if each have 1 title and JD has 2 than it is JD because that name varient has more on it's own. Even if they each had 1 title. If JD has more profiles then it should be the common name. Just because the program automaticly makes J.D. the credited as and adds J. D. doesn't make them the same screen credit and shouldn't be totaled together in a common name search. They each have to merit the count on their own. The CLT doesn't combine J.D. and J. D.

By that logic " Jr." and ", Jr." should not be combined for purposes of determining the common name and we have always done that because of the very same filter enforcement.  And in those the screen credit stays the same in the CLT as well. There have been several threads on it. Because of what the filter does some variants (like Jr, Sr, And Some initial cases with periods) do not actually stand on their own because of how it alters the name field and if blank populates the Credit As.

I agree this is probably end up being JD, I bet the ER title will tell.  And even if tied the profile counts will lead to JD.

Here is the filter behavior (I have tested it myself)

A.J.//Smith is filtered to be A./J./Smith[A.J. Smith] - The filter forces the common name to be A. J. Smith
A.J.//Smith[Albert Smith] is filtered to be A./J./Smith[Albert Smith] - The filter forces the common name to be A. J. Smith

A./J./Smith is filtered to be A./J./Smith
A./J./Smith[Albert Smith] is filtered to be A./J./Smith[Albert Smith]

A. J.//Smith is filtered to be A./J./Smith
A. J.//Smith[Albert Smith] is filtered to be A./J./Smith[Albert Smith]

Albert//Smith Jr. is filered to be Albert//Smith, Jr.[Albert Smith Jr.]
Albert//Smith Jr.[Albert Smith] is filered to be Albert//Smith, Jr.[Albert Smith]

Albert//Smith Sr. is filered to be Albert//Smith, Sr.[Albert Smith Sr.]
Albert//Smith Sr.[Albert Smith] is filered to be Albert//Smith, Sr.[Albert Smith]

So for common name counting purposes why would we treat the initialed (with periods) cases differently than Jr/Sr cases when the filter behavior for altering the commn name is the same.

By logic they should each have to stand on their own. If the most credited is Jr. that is the common name and the filter automaticaly makes it , Jr.. But if it is Thomas Rosales 43 titles. Thomas Rosales Jr. 30 & Thomas Rosales, Jr. 30 the common name should be Thomas Rosales because of the distinct 43 titles. Just an example, don't anyone go check the Rosales common name thread.

I Never could understand the logic when it was first brought up in a thread, so I never got involved in the discussion.

but we are counting the on-screen credit, not the forced filtered common name. 2 different things.
