I hope you guys can help. What program can tell you what regions a Blu-ray disc is coded for? I use AnyDVD, Profile Contribution Assistant and PowerDVD 13 Ultra. None of these show the region code of a Blu-ray. I have been using the cover for the region codes, but am being told this is incorrect.

I check the cover first... but those (like many other details) are very often incorrect. I own many Blu-rays that show an "A" (and "B" too) region logo, and in fact have no region coding. And others I've seen that say "Region Free" are actually region locked.

I then use AnyDVD HD, like Lithurge said can sometimes tell you the region code of Blu-rays. It can almost always tell you the region coding of a DVD.

You can also check on Blu-ray.com, Bluray.liesinc.net, and Regionfreemovies.com. You can often find many older release's region coding from those sites that have been verified by users. Brand new releases are sometimes trickier to find verification on.

If all else fails, I just use a region switchable set-top Blu-ray player, and switch it from A-C. That can tell you 99.9% for sure what a disc's region coding is. But most users probably don't have one of these. You can switch the regions manually in a software player (like PowerDVD) also, but many of those only give you a few times to change the region setting.

Some studios you can usually be fairly certain of the region coding for Blu-ray releases. Warner and Universal virtually never code their Blu-ray releases, for instance.

I just recently found that my region free player isn't really free, but region settable. A couple region A bd's I tried wouldn't play because it was still set to B, then were fine after switching back to A. Now it has more purpose than just playing my few other region blus and upscaling my PAL dvds.

I have absolutely no idea what you just said, but then I rarely understand what you're saying.

A good clue to the region codes is the language or subtitles available in the disc, if a disc say has Portuguese (Brazil) then it is meant to be play in at least Brazil.

The cover data is for country where the that package is sold, but the could sold in other countries.
As I have said before this is a DVD profiler, not a packaging profiler.

"Player Region not specified then Movie Info displayed Region: A,B,C" showed up on PBS The Bletchley Circle Season 2, disc 1 & 2.

Region Codes are a joke anyway, since their being player could be purchased or modified to play all the codes.

I have noticed many things are wrong on the covers, example,episode names or order, I use what is on the disc. So sue me.

My data base is not perfect, almost every day I find something wrong, but with some 25,000 discs I doubt if I'll ever get them all right.

This is the only answer. Blu-Ray regions are not at all like DVD regions. Blu-Ray discs don't have regions actually, the players do. The disc can have ANY code on it that can read the player's region, then do something different depending on the result.

So, the only way to know for sure is to check it in a player... even if AnyDVD detects the region, doesn't mean it's always correct, as I have found out for myself in the past.
