I just recently received a box set that I would like to contribute art work for but I'm a bit confounded about the title.

The UPC is 883316-951514 and here is its Amazon.com listing.

The two boxes shown came packaged back to back in clear shrink wrap, so that the front of one is the "front cover" of the set and the front of the other is the "rear cover" of the set.  Take your pick which is which.

The UPC was attached to the bottom edge of the package.  Neither of the two child boxes has a UPC code on them.

So,  by what title should the UPC 883316-951514 be entered into the database?  Would "Maverick: The Complete Fourth Season" violate the rules?

I would go with "Maverick: The Complete Fourth Season" as you say.

Personally, I would simply enter them as if I bought them separately, provided they both have UPCs.

Neither have UPCs.  There was only one on the outer shrink wrap  This is an instance where the parent doesn't have a title of its own or a case.  It's just a UPC tag and a piece of shrink wrap plastic, while the child profiles have cases and cover art, but no UPCs.

I would use the cover with part one as the front cover and part 2 as the back cover for the parent. If you added child profiles, I would use a scan of the back of each.

as with the J-card issue - scan how it is on the store shelf.

The problem with adding child profiles to this set is that the Part One box and the Part Two box have to be manual profiles and can only exist locally.  I suppose I could add child profiles directly to the parent, but that's not how they're packaged.

Wouldn't it be possible to create Disc-ID based child profiles?

Yes it is, but the box sets to which they belong aren't contributable because they don't have UPCs on them.  Here are the rear covers of the Part One & Part Two boxes:

You'll notice that the upper right corners have spots for UPCs, but there's none there because these covers were designed for a two-volume complete season release.

To complicate things, the two volumes were released individually at a later date but with modified rear covers:

Obviously the individual discs should be contributed with the original covers, but then they won't match the covers from the individual boxes that are contributable.

That just sucks. I know what I'd do locally, but it couldn't be contributed.

Locally, I'd use the existing profiles of the sets that were released later and replace the cover images. These would be child profiles of the UPC you bought each with their own children.

As for the title of this release, I'd use "Maverick: The Complete Fourth Season: Part One and Part Two"

What could be done for the online then is to attach individual disc-level profiles with the correct, original, UPC-less cover art to the parent profile with UPC in shrink wrap.

Those who want them can then insert manual profiles for the two boxes in between.

^This

However add to that , based on the rules the child profiles should have the cover art of the cases they are in

Is that listed anywhere on the packaging...specifically the front cover?  If not, then yes, it would violate the rules.

The problem here is that the box set itself has no packaging so doesn't really have a title...or am I missing something?

Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

No, that's correct.

What I decided to do was submit it with the title Maverick: The Complete Fourth Season since that's the way it's advertised on the Warner Archive product page (this box set was released by WB via their Warner Archives label) and that text is on the front covers of both child boxes.

My contribution notes explain that this is just a UPC tag and a cellophane wrapper, so we'll see if it gets approved.

I also submitted each of the disc level profiles using the covers from the non-contributable Part One and Part Two boxes.
