| | Posted: | | | | A band realises an album (on CD) in 1998. In 2006 it releases a deluxe edition of the same album with a few different tracks on it. As part of the deluxe edition (i.e. in the same case) it also includes a DVD of videos. What’s the Production Year with respect to the online database? The Rules don't seem to give a while lot of guidance on Production Years, so I was wondering what other people might do.

1) the first theatrical release date
2) for TV series the date the series airs in the country of origin
3) for anthologies of episodes the date the first episode airs
As music videos are usually made to be shown on TV and tend to be released over a number of months/years I would follow TV series anthology rules, which would make the production year the date the first video was shown on TV. | | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

The oldest video on the DVD (it's a complication of music videos) is from a track released on an album and as a single in 1994. So that would make the Production Year 1994, assuming the video got made at the same time and shown on TV then.
As the track isn't on the CD part, the Production Year would then be 12 years before the Release Date. | | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? I did say "probably" as I've not carried out any globally recognised and accepted research to obtain a definitive answer to enable me to drop the "probably" part from my statement. I've also not defined what I meant by "unusually" or "big" either. As I'm not aware that either of these words are quantitatively defined, it does give me the opportunity to interpret them with some degree of latitude. I could probably defend my statement with a degree of robustness greater than I have done thus far; but really, it's not that important to me and not what this thread is about. All I want to do is try to make sure I submit the best quality data I can to the online database with respect to the Rules; asking for advice etc here is one of the suggested ways of doing this.
