There is a contribution up now for John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars... trying to remove the possessive using the rule...

Their contribution notes:
- edited title (rules: [...] possessives which use a significantly smaller font are not part of the title [...])

First let me point out the rules actually say.. "Generally, possessives which use a significantly smaller font are not part of the title."

Notice the word I put in bold... which shows this is not always the case... so you would need to look into it more then just the fact that it is significantly smaller text.

Then the complete rules state....

Quote:
Include possessives if the front cover includes them, and if they are verifiably part of the title. If quotes surround the title in the credit block (generally on the back cover), check whether the possessive is within the quotes. In the absence of quotes to verify, check the font size used for the title on the front cover. Generally, possessives which use a significantly smaller font are not part of the title.
Possessive examples: "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride", John Carpenter's "The Thing". In each case, the portion within quotes is the title.

Once again notice the part I put in bold. Looking at the back of cover at credit block it is obvious that the possessive is inside the quotes so per profiler's rules the possessive is part of the title... as you can see below...

After I PMed this contributor.... he just updated his notes to what I posted above... and this is getting voted yes to (after my no vote). And no reply what so ever to my PM... I thought I better post here in hopes that I can ideally get this contribution withdrawn... or at least voted down. This way it saves...

1. Me (or someone) from having to fix this error if it goes through
2. Save the screeners time of check 1 or 2 (to fix if this goes through) contributions

I also sending a link to this post to the contributor so they can defend their contribution if they wish to.

Doesn't matter what the working title is/was... we go by the rules for the title. And the rules are quite clear on the subject.

I am happy to say after I opened this thread and invited him to defend his contribution  here the contribution was withdrawn. As per rules the title is "John Carpenter's Ghost of Mars."

Thank You contributor.

and the working title for The Amazing Spider-Man was Spider-Man 4 or Untitled Spider-Man Reboot or Spider-Man 4: The Amazing Spider-Man but I don't see them as the title in the database.
We don't use working titles only actual release titles.
So the DVD title and the original film title is John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars, without even taking the rules into account. This is one case where the contribution rules don't muck-up the data.

not only is addicted2dvd right .. but if you look you'll find that almost all of John Carpenter's films have his name in /or  are part of the on screen title...
