Hi

I just like to ask how you handle the Studios credits. Rules tell only:

List the Studios in the following priority.
- Theatrical Release Studio(s)
- Production Company(s)

Now here an example I have:

Film4, Hanway Films & BFI present
in association with Universal Pictures International
in association with Pinewood Pictures
a Blueprint Pictures production

Do I now credit only Film4, Hanway Films and BFI, the production company get's lost. Or may I credit Film4, Hanway Films and Blueprint Pictures to have also the production Studio?

Thanks,

Fritz

If theatrical release studios have a higher priority than production companies then this means that all theatrical release studios have to be submitted or if there are too many then just the three that are credited first. Production companies can only be submitted if there ist still space left after that. At least this is how I understand the rules.
Recently bought films:

The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD]

It's been my experience that there is usually only one Theatrical Release Studio (per location) and the other 2 would be the first 2 production companies. I'm from the US so I can't speak for other locations.

Are those credits for The Riot Club (2014)?

UK distributor: Universal Pictures International (in US: IFC Films)

Production companies/sales/support: Film 4, HanWay Films, BFI, Pinewood, Blueprint Pictures

I guess the real question is why we can't enter all relevant studios as we can for all cast and crew members.

Hi JMGuer

Yes, good guess, they are for The Riot Club. I just contributed the German release with full Studios, Crew and Cast. As you wrote I also did take : Film 4, HanWay Films, BFI as we can only enter 3.

Would be nice to have more entries for the Studios, not unlimited as Crew and Cast, but about 6 would be nice to have and help alot.

Probably because there are only three fields available in the program right now.

Well, that's kind of obvious.  My statement has more to do with why we don't have the flexibility, or capability, to add all studios in the same manner we do with cast and crew.  It's not that the programming won't allow for it but rather it hasn't been implemented in this manner.

Yes, that would be really nice (even if only at a local level).

I still don't understand the whole Studio / Media Company thing...

For example I audited the 2001 Film 'Lucky Break'

The studios were listed in the Credits as Paramount Pictures, Miramax FIilms, FilmFour

But looking at some UK editions it appeared that FilmFour was listed first....  I also listed US as the first CoO and then the UK.  But in the end Credits it only mentioned FilmFour and UK as countries of origin.

Then there are the cases where there are logos/intros for studios before the credits role, but those aren't always listed in the typed credits.  I always take the studios from the typed credits, but sometimes that doesn't seem right.

Also confused with MC, of who gets listed first.  I'm confused sometimes by who is the Publisher, Licensor & Distributor.  It would be great if there were some examples listed, to make it easier to discern which is which.
HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U  AVR: Onkyo TR-707
Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors  Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800

BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii

They edit the studios in some regions of release, especially in the very beginning of the film. Magnolia Home Entertainment does it all the time here in the US for instance, and they release a lot of foreign films.

I always just take the studios direct as they appear in the film. Often some studios are listed on the back cover credit block, but appear nowhere in the actual film.

A publisher is a studio like "Scorpion Releasing", who are usually distributed in retail by "Kino Lorber". Sometimes Scorpion do distribute their own titles on their own Big Cartel store though, so Kino doesn't always apply as the distributor of their titles.

The licensor will generally appear on the back cover text (or a logo) somewhere...but that doesn't appear on all releases. Criterion releases, for example, will usually have "Under exclusive license from ____" on the back cover.

Often the distributor is also listed somewhere on the back cover text (or a logo) also, but again not always. "Distributed by" or "Marketed by" often appears.
