I’m struggling with some inconsistency while interpreting the contribution rules and with the possibility to enter some DVD’s of a collection sold together with a magazine.
Since all of these DVD’s have a UPC/EAN code which starts with the same 13 digits 5420022905803 followed by two additional digits (from 01 till 15), I can’t enter them as regular UPC/EAN codes because the system doesn’t accept them as being too long.
When I try to enter the DVD’s with the disc ID, I have a conflict with other entries in the database since they are already existing but with a different cover, different case type, different released version.
I thought that now with the alternate entry ID, all my problems were solved, so I entered them with this option.  Some of them were accepted, without any problems, but most of them were declined with the message : “The profile should be submitted without an alternate entry ID”.
Example : valid one Hasta La Vista: Dag Allemaal movie collection Disc: 6C6B-4F4E-E456-2B15
Not accepted Georgia Rule: Dag Allemaal movie collection Disc: D73B-C8BB-F3B4-3546
So I tried for those DVD’s to create them again by means of entry with the disc ID (not as alternate ID) and submit them again.  Again they where not accepted, but now with the message :
“The UPC/EAN of the contributed cover scan does not match the profile's UPC/EAN.”
But some of them where accepted.
Example : valid one Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery: Dag Allemaal movie collection Disc: 26A1-C328-3999-1F77
Not accepted The Good Shepherd: Dag Allemaal movie collection Disc: 4EFD-9F86-69B2-704A
How should I enter my DVD’s now?  I want to have the full collection entered in the system in a consistent way and all of them should be accepted.  Please help.  Thanks.

As I understand your story, you have tried submitting these by Disc ID.

What you might try is submitting them by EAN and then use variants. I.e. use the first 13 digits of these 15-digit EANs and create as many variants of these as you need. Make sure you explain in your contribution notes that these are 15-digit EANs and that you are submitting using the base-EAN consisting of 13 digits as well as that you are using variants for the remaining last two digits.

The way I see it you would be relying on the following rule on when to use variants:

Unrelated releases of different titles that share the same UPC/EAN
Use for: Two or more releases of different films/shows which share the same UPC.
The first added entry uses the base UPC/EAN, and subsequent additions use the next available alternate version.

Note: In prior program releases, subsequent versions were added by Disc ID. These entries will be replaced with UPC/EAN alternate IDs.
