I run across this issue last night when Looking over "Cry in the Dark", and again tonight with "The Deal"

Here is a screenshot of the cast block:

Both films has the cast broke up into different sections.  Then within each section there are sub sections, in the example above the first one is KGM Agents.  So do we use Group Dividers for Los Angeles and then another Group Divider for KGM Agents?

It can be a bit confusing... and then add in the rule not to use Group End Dividers when a new Group Divider is used... but in this instance Girls with camera wouldn't get one, so following that rule would make it look like Los Angeles is the same as Girls with camera.

I thought about using Episode Dividers for the Header Types like Los Angeles.  And I found other profiles for 'The Deal' the did just that.  And looking at them it looks right, it makes sense visually, but even though it makes logical sense I don't see how to support it in the rules.

So how would you vote and/or contribute?  I was tempted to post it last night, but decided against it and kept my changes local as I didn't want to submit something I wasn't 100% on.

I did read through the rules, and searched the forum but didn't see an answer to this issue.  Most of the Divider topics were from 2007 and the program and rules have changed since then.

Here is a post that discusses nesting dividers: http://wwww.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=444259&messageID=1222529

This post has a link that Ken posted but one needs to be a member of the rules committee to access his post: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=438798&PageNum=4

As of yet, there's no definite answer for this. Several methods of handling have been proposed, Ken said: "The alternatives are here for you folks to talk about", and then nothing ever happened.

To me, it's not only important how it *looks*, but also how the program deals with the data. In your example, I'd certainly use "Los Angeles" and "Cape Town" dividers - those work. Then when I look up Todd Weeks' credits, it tells me he's credited in this particular film as "Brad Emprin" under a "Los Angeles" header. That gives me the context that's on the screen as well. However, if I were to use a divider for "KGM Agents" as well, then I'd lose the connection to the "Los Angeles" header. While the program would still able to tell me that Darron Meyer and Jaymie Carter appear as "KGM Agents", it would no longer tells me that they're part of the "Los Angeles" header - that connection would be broken. Worse: after an end divider, the rest of the cast in that section won't be attached to the previous "Los Angeles" header either. As such, I enter them in a way that actually *works* - I use the "Los Angeles" header, but give Darron Meyer and Jaymie Carter each separate "KGM Agent" credits. That way, all cast in that group will "connect" to the header above it, allowing DVD Profiler to give the credits their proper context.

That's how I do it, and that's apparently one of "the alternatives for us to talk about", but that was five years ago, and no decision has ever been made...

Thanks guys!  I think I"ll just park it and keep it local.  If Ken hasn't weighed in from those threads and there isn't a clear rule then I can't be bothered either, I'm sure I would get resistence if I contributed.

BTW Tim, I agree with you as far as the data aspect.
