Hi,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if "3D" is on the cover, and not with additional words like Limited 3D Edition, it's put in the title field and then the title of the movie, if shown as such in the credits, placed in the original title field. Here are a few examples:

I, Frankenstein 3D

All Regions

Released: 5/13/2014

Widescreen 2.40:1

Hercules 3D

All Regions

Released: 11/4/2014

Widescreen 2.40:1

Beauty and the Beast 3D: Diamond Edition

All Regions

Released: 10/4/2011

Widescreen 1.85:1

Chicken Little 3D

All Regions

Released: 11/8/2011

Widescreen 1.78:1

John Carter 3D

All Regions

Released: 6/5/2012

Widescreen 2.40:1

Clash of the Titans 3D

All Regions

Released: 11/16/2010

Widescreen 2.40:1

That said, I didn't see anything in the rules about it...

Personally would not put it in the DVD title field, and definitely not in the original title field. Only have 1 in my collection that has it in the original title - Jaws 3-D

I would not include it in the title as it is a format.  We can't add DVD in the edition, why would we add 3D in the title?

Alright, just strange as all of those have 3D as part of the title. If DVD was on the front cover, then I suppose it'd be included as well.

Hopefully Ken or somebody at Invelos will chime in because like I said, there are many profiles like this...

Just a question.

If it's not part of the title, could it be an edition?

Don't many (if not all) of these have releases not in 3D?

I suppose 3D could be an edition, since we allow Fullscreen and Widescreen as editions.

I will have to find it... but in a thread when these first started to become regular accordance... Ken has said this will sometimes be part of the title... but not part of the edition.

OK, just to clarify what I meant and to be sure I understand you correctly, here are some examples:

Title: "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas"
Edition: leave empty
reason:  because 3D is part of the title

Title: "Transformers Dark of the Moon"
Edition: "Limited 3D Edition"
reason: explicit mention on the cover that it's a 3D edition

Title: "The Three Musketeers"
Edition: empty
reason: 3D isn't mentioned either in the title nor as an edition

Is that in line with the rules?

This is exactly in line with the rules, and how I would expect to see these entered.

In 3.8, the 3D indicator will be view-able from the mini-preview in the Add DVD window, and of course from the full preview.

I would go with rule of proximity.

In DVD Profiler world the title on the front cover is not necessarily identical with the movie title.

So it all depends on how integrated the "3D" is with the letters of what we consider the title.

At the beginning of the current 3D wave there were quite a number of sequels that combined the sequel number 3 and the visual effect 3D and then of course it's part of the title.

If it uses the same font and is close to the rest of the title, then yes, I'd say it's part of the title.

If the "3D" is far away or even part of the term "edition" then it is an edition.

For everything else, we have the original title.

I will admit I had forgotten about that thread.  I guess we have our answer.

We're seeing more and more of these, and without clarification on it, they've been going all three ways (in the title, as the edition, and excluded).  I'd like to standardize this a bit as it's causing some ping-ponging.

This is for titles such as this:

Preliminarily, I'd lean towards 3D as the edition in this kind of case.  Open to discussion.

Being around the title makes it a little difficult... as you can find it anywhere in the title... such as...

So if you want the above treated differently then the example you shown we need to make it perfectly clear.

In my honest opinion, the above should be no different then the "There's Something More About Mary" example... and should remain part of the title.

IMO, it should be a part of the title (which is how I contribute it) and then the title as shown in the credits in the Original Title section.

In that case, I'd say 3D is clearly part of the title.  Codifying this may get interesting.

In my opinion the 3D should only be part of the title if it is really intigrated into the title like in the Harold & Kumar movie. All other case where the 3D is just put after the title, I think it should be treated as edition.

But I don't have a strong opinion about that, as long as there will be a clear rule in the end.
