I've been using the free version of DVD Profiler for some time but have recently upgraded.  I'm really excited about submitting a few of my old DVDs that aren't in the database.  However, before I start making brand new submissions, I thought I'd try to tackle (what I hope) is a simple update to an existing profile.

The entry in question is called "Lon Chaney Collection" from TCM Archives.  This is a two disc box set with 5 advertised titles: 2 movies on Disc 1 and 2 movies and a documentary on Disc 2.  The existing profile for this box set has the two actual discs entered correctly.  However, while Disc 1's two movies have individual profiles for each movie, Disc 2's movies are lumped together in one profile.  This doesn't make any sense to me, so I thought I'd try to 1) edit this "lumped together" profile so it only has one of the movies, and 2) create a new profile for the 2nd movie.

Here's where I run into a bit of trouble.  I've read the Contribution Rules and understand the concept of Alternate Versions.  (As I understand it, in this case the Disc 1 movies follow the Alternate Version rule while the Disc 2 movies do not.)  However, I'm simply not sure how to get started.    My first attempt ended up in a mess so I deleted the whole box set from my collection and started over.  I tried searching the forums for beginner tips for contributions, but didn't really find anything pertinent to what I'm trying to do.  If anyone has any advice or can point me in the right direction for information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for the direction!  I was overlooking the "create a clone" feature.  After figuring this out, I was able to edit the entries accordingly.

However, after pondering this particular box set for a while, I think I see why the original profile creator(s) chose to treat these two physical disks differently.  While the 1st disc contains two actual movies, the second movie of the 2nd disc isn't really a true movie.  It is a photo still recreation of the "lost" film, London After Midnight.  Therefore, I think they chose to treat it kind of like a featurette as opposed to an actual film.  Of course, since it isn't a true featurette either, they compromised by adding it to the 1st movie's profile and using dividers in the Cast and Crew sections.

Therefore, I think I'll just accept it as it currently is in the DVD Profiler database.  Despite this, it was still good practice for me to edit a box set in this manner.
