| | Posted: | | | | I recently converted a profile for two movies on a single disc into a box set, adding two child profiles. In doing so I removed most of the info from the box set parent, but I got a No vote from one user because I removed CoO and Genres.
In my opinion it is obvious that both these belong to the child profiles only, since they can be different. The rules do not specifically tell us to leave them blank, but neither do they tell us to keep them. In this case the CoO was actually the same for both movies, so I guess it would have been OK to keep it, but I feel that in order to be consistent one should remove it from all box sets.
Any thoughts on this? Is my contribution incorrect because I removed CoO and Genres? | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users.

No matter how logical your explanation feels, and no matter how many people (myself included) might agree with your take on it, there will also be users that feel that they should be filled, simply because the rules don't say not to. I have two major problems with keeping these fields:
1) It's not possible to always fit all data in these fields. Box set children can have any number of CoO:s and genres, and there are only three CoO fields and three (contributable) genre fields.
2) Having the same info in two places (parent and child) skews statistics.
Because of the second point I would also have liked to keep running time out of the parent, but at least the rules are clear on that point, so I do keep it there. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users.

| | Posted: | | | | Well, not contributing is not very productive. I still feel that I want to contribute to the database. If we all stop contributing a lot of the usefulness of DVD Profiler is lost. But the first step towards actually getting the rules changed would really be a poll to show Ken that there's interest, and agreement, in having the rule changed.

As for CoO, as long as they are allowed and correct, I wouldn't remove them either. They make about as much sense as having a production year for a box set and we allow for them too. | | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| | Posted: | | | | The other option is for Ken to make a change to the main program to lock or grey out these fields for box set profiles. If you take it one step further you can roll up all of the information from the child profiles into the parent or box set profile. |
