What features actually belong in the parent profile of a Blu-Ray 3D combo pack?

Take for example The Avengers, UPC#786936819670

The parent profile has many features checked, including featurettes, commentary, deleted scenes and others.

But the back cover shows that the 3D disc appears to have no features. That those features actually appear on the blu-ray child profile.

So in the case of a Blu-Ray 3D, Blu-Ray, DVD Combo Pack what features should be attached to the parent profile?

I think that if the Blu-Ray 3D is the main profile disc and it has no features that the parent profile should reflect that an no check boxes should be checked that belong to other discs in the pack.

As the child profile(s) for such sets is/are optional (click!), the parent should reflect *all* features found on *all* discs.

Okay, but doesn't that make it appear that the main disc (in this case the 3D disc) has features that it doesn't actually have.

Another example is a few MGM Blu-Ray/DVD combo packs where the dvd has more features than the Blu-Ray does.

So does that also apply to Blu-Ray/DVD combo packs too?

In the Box Set portion of the rules I see this.

Quote:
Sets containing the same film on multiple media types (such as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack) are to be entered as a normal profile for the main media type (Blu-ray in this example), with all included media types checked. A combo which includes HD media (HD-DVD, Blu-ray) as well as DVD should use the details from the HD media in the main profile. However, you may add an additional profile by Disc ID for the DVD content and add this profile to the Box Set contents for the Blu-ray profile.

Wouldn't that mean that in a 3D blu-ray, blu-ray and dvd combo pack that the 3d disc is the main media type?

Just looking for clarification.

Yes, but think of how it looks the other way around. Those who choose to list this set without the optional child profile(s), would see a profile without any features, while the set actually *does* contain featurettes, commentary, deleted scenes and others. Just not on the first disc. But as all discs are also listed in the "Discs" section, the features are also compiled from all discs.

Yes. There as well, the parent should list *all* features, including ones that only appear on the DVD disc - again because the DVD child profile is optional. Just like the parent included all media types, and lists all the discs.

I would say so, yes. That doesn't change anything about the features, though. Again, in these cases child profiles are optional, so all data must be handled in the parent. So we list all media types in the parent, we list all the discs in the "Discs" section, and we include all the features found on the entire set.

I don't know, it just seems confusing to me.

Are we treating combo packs like box sets or tv series?

Based upon what you're saying it sounds more like tv series instead of box sets.

TV series is where child profiles are optional, and we list everything in the parent.
Box sets forbid credits, Subtitles, Audio & Disc Features in the parent.

But then the combo pack rules are listed in the box set section. Perhaps that's what is getting me confused.

Box Sets contain more than one movie. Combo packs contain the same movie on different media. So they are not really comparable. I think they are only listed in the box set section because there is not really a better place for them in the rules.
Recently bought films:

The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD]

Combo packs are not box sets.  As stated earlier in the thread, pretend that the child profiles don't exist, and you're profiling the entire contents of the release as a unit.

If/when you contribute child profiles, remove any features that don't apply to that disc.

This. It's there as a warning, reminding us that a combo pack is not a box set, and is therefore not handled the same way.

Not that it affects me, but if one wants an accurate profile for the 3D disc than one would have to create a local only profile for that disc to accurately reflect what's contained on that disc, right?

Yeah, e.g. on BD/DVD-Combos I try to clean the BD-parent up, because I don't like how they look iff according to the rules.
I would have preferred a clean Box-Set rule for combos, but Ken decided otherwise.

I made a tag for Combo Pack and treat it as a Box Set, that way I know what features are on each disc. And of course I keep it local and those areas locked. I also have a custom media type for Blu-ray 3D so that's the only media type checked...unless the 2D and 3D are on one disc, then both are checked.

Invelos, is this really how you want your online database to work? "Keep it local" for just about everything people would like to have?
99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1."
