Made a contribution to correct a couple of errors in this Profile, one of which is the Production Year.  Says right on the back of the DVD case and at DVD Empire that the Production Year for this movie is 1999, yet when I try to correct that, Katatonia votes my contribution down because the movie didn't actually air on television until 2000.  Really???  Per rules?  Really???  How can the rules state that a field which is labeled Production Year can be anything but Production Year?  Production year is the year the movie was made, not the year the movie was shown on television.  Any rule that makes a stipulation such as that is a STUPID rule.  That field should be pretty straightforward, not open to alternative interpretations.

Sorry, had to vent.

With cinema films there are significant differences between production and release date - think of Lord of the Rings or Hunger Games. And even worse, production can be running over years...

I think these are the reason why we use the release date, not the production year.

... and release of a TV show is the air date...

What is stupid, is the name of the field in DVDP. It has been asked before to rename that field to something like "year of first release", but so far to no avail.

EDIT: I can well imagine the current - IMHO misleading - field name is confusing for users.

For some reason we can't get a real "production year" field and separate "year of release" field. It's been requested for at least a decade now.
99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1."

All I know is it says 'Production Year' not Release Date or anything else.  If it is meant to mean something else then why is it called Production Year?  Seems pretty straightforward as it is, to me.

why is it called Production Year?

Yep, that's one of the mysteries in DVD Profiler. You're not the first one to ask that. But the rules tell us what to enter in that field, unlogical as it may be.

Maybe it should be original copyright year. That is usually in the credits, where it's not open to debate (except in these forums).
