Nearly all profiles of Beauty and the Beast have story by credits for more than 10 people.
But this people aren't credited under story by, they' re credited under Story.

The only other writing credit is for Linda Woolverton as screenwriter.

Are those really valid story by credits?

None. In animation films, these credits refer to animators, not writers. As you can see from the many profiles listing these people, not too many people get that...

I don't really buy this. Some of those credited with story in the screenshot above went on to be writers/directors in their own rights. Are the directors of these movies just glorified animators? Why can't one be an animator AND story writer AND director?

Another chapter in this topic. The credits of The Jungle Book:

There are no other writing credits, so they must be the writers.
Do they get story by credits?
If so, what's the difference between them and the story credits in Beauty and the Beast?

There is no difference. They are all valid credits.

You can read about the writing process of Beauty and the Beast on wikipedia.
Apparently BatB was the first Disney animation film with an actual screenplay, written by Linda Woolverton.
Before that most films were "written" with storyboards.
The screenplay of BatB was reworked by storyboard artists, changing several aspects of the story.
I assume the people credited for story are those storyboard artist.

Another Disney Movie with a an Artistic Supervisor - Story: Tarzan
But this movie has several "normal" screenwriting credits.
In my opinion those credits should be valid, when no normal writing credit is present. Same for the Story credits.
What do you think?
Which would mean:
Valid credit: Jungle Book
Invalid credits: Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan
