First an image from the openingcredits  And an image from a front cover.  Personally I think both the title and the original title should be Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. |

For my eyes the font is significantly smaller, both on the front cover and the screenshot. | | Posted: | | | | The DVD title is The Nightmare Before Christmas (per possessive rule & credit block). But originally released to theaters in 1993 as Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.
The possessive rule has nothing to do with the original title - Original title is the original title, no matter how muddy the wording is for how to determine the original title. Personally I think both the title and the original title should be Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. The official Walt Disney site, Tim Burton's filmography, official copyright files, official 1994 Academy Award records (the film was nominated), AFI.........all give the (original) film title as The Nightmare Before Christmas, not Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas. From AFI.... The Nightmare Before Christmas premiered at the New York Film Festival on 9 Oct 1993 to largely positive reviews. The film’s limited release on 15 Oct 1993 was followed by a wide release on 29 Oct 1993. The Nightmare Before Christmas opens with voiceover narration introducing the setting. The opening title card reads “Touchstone Pictures presents Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,” while various reviews alternately refer to the title with and without Burton’s name. Not trying to dissuade/persuade you.....one way or the other....enter whatever you like,,,, as you see fit. |

| | Posted: | | | | The title is pretty clear right now. For my profiles it's The Nightmare Before Christmas without the Tim Burton part. So that leaves the original title.
In my opinion the original title is taken from the moviecredits according the rules. The first screenshot in the opening post is from the opening credits of the movie. This is also the only time the title is used. Both Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Nightmare Before Christmas are not named anywhere else in the movie.
Could anyone clear what the correct original title is according the rules. For now I'm too confused to decide if it's with or without the Tim Burton part. |

| | Posted: | | | | The rules, by pointing at the quotes in the credits block, indeed dictate that the possessive is not part of the title. No problem there. And since the rules do not add a line like "but retain the possessive in the original title field", it doesn't belong there either. |

I've decided I don't change it. So both should be The Nightmare Before Christmas. |
