In the classic era Hollywood Studios worked a lot with fashion designers. These were known or mentioned in a single name. Recently I came across "Gowns by Adrian". A fashion designer who worked a lot for MGM in the 30'ties. He worked with Garbo and other famous stars and for movies like "The Wizard of Oz".
Like others he is well documented and also known under his full name.

My question. What do you think/are we allowed to change the credits into a full name for instance "Gowns by Adrian" becomes Costume Designer Adrian Adolph Greenburg (Adrian) when enough documentation is provided or isn't it allowed or accepted?

only credited name in the database is Adrian.
if you want to add him in your database, have at it. But you can't upload it to the online database.

I can accept it, but I find it messy/disorderly to include an actor/crew member in the online database only under his first name.

Can't change what is in the credits... as the rules say...

Rules Quote:
Quote:
Take Crew Credits from the film credits only; list names exactly as they are in the credits. Exception: If the credit information is entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead.

If that's the way they wanted to be credited, and it's the only name they are credited with, why is it messy/disorderly?  Madonna is credited by one name.  Cher is credited by one name.  Why should this be any different?

Ok, you have a point there, but very few people are only known under their first name. On the other hand we accept birth years when certain names re-appear for other persons. So we accept that sometimes there can be a mix-up or confusion. Then external proof is accepted, in this case none seem to be accepted.

None seems to be accepted because it goes against what the rules tells us to do.

Rules are rules, follow the rules. However we live in constant inconsistancy. When new profiles are contributed or corrections are added sometimes the contributor says that this new info was based on existing info/profiles - roles added while none were shown in the credits or uncredited names which remain present. It isn't always as simple.

If the question comes to the ability of contribution, I'd vote for yes.

There is an already accepted rule change pending which allows Gowns by if there is no costume designer credited:
Quoting:
Quote:
Costume Designer:
Costume Designer
Costumes Designed by
Costumes by
Costumes Created by
Wardrobe Designer
Wardrobe Created by
Gowns/Costumes/Clothes/Wardrobe/Uniforms for [Cast Name/Group] (Designed) by

If no Costume Designer credit:
Gowns by
Wardrobe by
Costume Supervisor
Wardrobe Supervisor

Note: if a Designer is credited, do not credit Supervisors.

Incorrect Roles:
(Any) Provided by, Courtesy of, or Company names.
Wardrobe Mistress
Wardrobe Master
Costumer
Complete list of Common Names  •  A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1)

None is accepted in this case because there is no mix-up or confusion.  This person wanted to be credited as "Adrian".  Unless there is another person that is going by that first name only, there is no need to muddy the waters.
