Profiling multiple movies on one side of a disc |

| | Posted: | | | | I'm going through all my titles that have more than one film on a single side, and I have two questions on the proper way of profiling them:
1) Disk id: On parent, on children or on both?
2) Where to profile special features. It seems easy if the menu is structured like this:
- Movie 1
-- Play
-- Special Features
- Movie 2
-- Play
-- Special features
In this case it seems intuitive to profile the special features in the respective child profile.
However, what if the menu looks more like this:
- Movie 1
- Movie 2
- Special features
Do we profile all features in the parent, or do we profile features that are clearly connected one of the movies in that child profile (and non-specific features in the parent)? | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users.

| | Posted: | | | | 1): It depends. If your disc comes with a UPC/EAN of its own, use the UPC/EAN for the parent profile (box set profile) and create two Disc ID variants to cover the individual films. From the contribution rules:
A release with a single UPC/EAN, with two movies on the same side of the same disc:
UPC Entry: (Movie 1/Movie 2) data
Disc ID A Entry: Movie 1 data
Disc ID A Entry (Variant ID #1): Movie 2 data.
The parent only contains box set data (therefore without Disc IDs). From the box set rules:
Disc IDs Do not include any Disc IDs on the main profile - these are listed on each of the individual profiles.
If the disc does not have a UPC/EAN of its own, then only create the two Disc ID variants to cover the individual films. If the disc is part of a multi-disc box set, attach the Disc ID variants directly to the parent box set profile. Again from the rules:
Note: Do not create and contribute a disc ID profile with multiple movies:
UPC Entry: (Movie 1/Movie 2) data
Disc ID A: (Movie 1/Movie 2) data
Disc ID A Entry (Variant ID #1): Movie 1 data
Disc ID A Entry (Variant ID #2): Movie 2 data.
2) I would treat them just like any box set, i.e. if a special feature relates to single movie, list it in the Disc ID profile in question. If it relates to both movies, list it in the parent profile. |

| | Posted: | | | | I should perhaps clarify my question on the first point, since there is a bit of confusion regarding the terminology. When I asked about Disc ID I was referring to the Discs section of the profile; i.e. should I add a disc (the same disc) to both child profiles, and none to the parent?
For a regular box set, the answer would be apparent. But in this case it's just one disc so keeping it in the parent would make some sense, since the children really only represent part of the disc. I'm not saying that it's how it should be done, just that it might make sense. The rules don't seem to be clear on this, so I was hoping for either a consensus (big chance) or a ruling from Ken. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users.

2. I asked ken this myself when alternate profiles was first introduced... he said if the special features is clearly for one of the films only then put it with that film profile. If it would cover all films on disc it goes into all the child profiles.

In general that's completely correct, however in practice there are exceptions, such as a book or booklet in a box set containing work of a director, where the book(let) covers the director's career. I don't recall having ever seen such an item listed as a feature of each and every single disc in a set of this nature. This may not be warranted directly per the rules, but in reality it is how I have seen it done quite often. |
