One of my favorite posts from IVS was the 3 Best, 3 Worst, and 3 Most Needed...This was a great way to view collections similar to our personal tastes. I can't remember who started it (I think that it was Miss Movie Diva), but I learned a lot from this topic (ie. I got to view great collections of FlyersFan, MissMovieDiva, jlproffitt, etc. and what they were recently buying-I would hate to lose that info.). Feel free to evaluate my collection first to kick this topic off.

Hey Colby, good to see you posting again.  I didn't see you around much on the other board.
Anyway...

Best:
Double Indemnity: Legacy Series
The Double Life of Veronique
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Worst:
Brick.  I seem to be in the minority on this one.  I didn't like it at all.
Chicago
Daredevil

Need:
Back to the Future
Das Boot
The Thin Man box set

Man, you guys with the 1,000+ collections are tough to rate!!

If you can you should think about selling off your Samurai Classics box set and getting the new reissues of Seven Samurai, Sanjuro & Yojimbo.  It's worth it.

Best:
Once Upon a Time in the West -- defines the genre
Band of Brothers -- might be the best TV ever made
Taxi Driver -- should have been Scorcesies first Oscar

Worst:
Deuce Bigalow -- blah
Freaky Friday -- a remake that should never have seen the light of day
Gothika -- do they get any more predictable?

Most Needed:
No Man's Land -- one of the best (anti)war films out there
Boondock Saints -- Dafoe at his best
Children of Men -- one of the best this decade

Miss Movie Diva

One of my all time favorite collections-can't resist:

Best:
Bad and the Beautiful (a movie for any movie fan)
Double Indeminty: Legacy Series (my favorite)
Film Noir Classic Collection Vol. 1 (the best collection of film noir; period)

Worst:
Showgirls (so bad, it's almost good)
Hide & Seek (huge disappointment-Fanning was better than DeNiro)
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (can't help it, I hate it)

Most Needed:
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane: SE
The Killing (my favorite Kubirck film)
The Third Man (being re released by criterion)

Good to see you in here again; always a pleasure

Does someone else want to rank colbyw's collection?  I'm actually online procrastinating, but feel this topic should really be revived.

This is hard so many great movies, even more lousy ones I'm glad I missed.

Best
Third Man (best film noir, Bought it on Laser, DVD, and Criterion Blu-ray, great set)
Raging Bull (best Sports)
Once Upon a Time in the West (bought on Laser, DVD and I'll buy it on Blu-ray, w/proper restoration,  I agree kovacs01)
those and about a 100 more
I have to add the Godfather,The Coppola Restoration on Blu-ray, great extras, was up till six o'clock watching every bit of it.

Worst
Showgirls (so bad, it's almost good, on this I also agree)
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (It came as part of a box set)
Trog (part of the Cult Camp Classics box set, they're all lousy, but fun)

Most Needed
African Queen
Song of the South
and not a movie but I''ll get it some day
The Complete Jazz At The Philharmonic On Verve: 1944-1949, I remember saving my coins to go see them when they came to K.C., hardly a day goes by that I don't listen to Charlie Parker or Lester Young.
A Matter of Life and Death was on my list now out as Stairway to Heaven, in transit  as I write, it was my wish list at Amazon for ages.

You're meant to assess the person above (or in this case colbyw's) collection, not your own.

This seems like a pretty good idea for a thread... at last something worth posting for

W0m6at's:

Best:
American Beauty - Classic black comedy, but also harrowingly realistic at the same time.
The Hunger: The Series' - Tragically under-rated series' by the equally under-rated Tony Scott.
Memento - Amazingly simple, yet makes gripping cinema.

Worst:
Ali G Indahouse - Let's just say that I'm not a big fan of Mr Baron-Coen's work...
Freddy got Fingered - So tragically unfunny, all you can do is shake your head in despair.
Moulin Rouge! - Contrived rubbish.

Most Needed:
Bubba-Ho-Tep - Have meant to see this for ages, but have never got around to it.
Trap Door - Complete Collection - Keeping meaning to buy this - classic claymation from my youth!
The Young Ones Series 1 & 2 - Very good and very funny
DVD
Blu-Ray

This section is meant to be suggestions... things that aren't already in the person's collection.

...and honestly, I'll have a crack at someone's collection soon.

Assessing bizarre_eye's collection:

Although there's stuff in your collection that would not make it into mine, that's only based on personal taste rather than quality of films. You have a very strong horror collection. The "most needed" part was hard for me, because (very) many that I thought up were already in there.

BEST
1984 - Wonderfully gritty and stark vision of the future.
The City of Lost Children - A treat for the eyes, and a beautiful story.
Father Ted - You have great taste!

WORST
Brazil - I personally found this to be dull and highly overrated.
Cube 2: Hypercube - Tried to be too cool. The original was great for its atmosphere and simplicity. Cube Zero improved on this one, but still couldn't match the original.
Spider Forest - Went nowhere.

MOST NEEDED
The Quiet Family - The Happiness of the Katakuris (in your collection) is a remake of this iirc.
The Day of the Triffids - You don't have the movie or the brilliantly executed 1980s BBC miniseries.
Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1920) - Some downright creepiness in there, and it's a character entirely missing from your collection as far as I could see.

Ahhh...  apologies on that front!

In the true spirit of the game I will start what I have finished.... In my opinion you're most needed would be:

The Invisible Man (1933) - You have the series, plus other classic horror, and also other Wells adaptations; but not the brilliant 1933 film starring Claude Rains.

Solaris (1972) - I notice you have Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker, which is an amazing piece of work, but Solaris is equally as brilliant, and one of my favourite films of all time.

The X-Files (1993 - 2001) - I see Millennium, I see Harsh Realm... but no X-Files?!!

Some great suggestions. I feel compelled to respond to such well thought out ideas.

I only recently grabbed the series (and only have season 1 as of yet), and haven't watched it, but am tempted to grab the Rains version every time I see it. Your suggestion weakens my resolve. I still need to read the book.

I've been meaning to watch this for quite some time now. I love Stalker. Only its length keeps me from returning to it more often.

I really enjoyed Harsh Realm. Millennium I am slowly working my way through, with the intent to sell it once I'm done. Both were picked up as super-bargains. I only watched The X-Files "because it was on"... it never drew me in enough to buy.

Thanks for reviewing my collection.
