I purchased Game of Thrones Season 5(Blu-ray) yesterday 9 Mar 2016 at Walmart. Every site I checked so far has a release date of 15 Mar 2016, what is the proper release date that should be put on the database profile.

I would say it depends.
What is the releasedate from the publisher of the box?
And sometimes certain stores (as far i only saw that at amazon sometimes) have exklusive deals to sell the stuff a few weeks before others, if that is the case here then it may be an earliere releasedate....but for that you would have to find out since when they sell it.

Thiurd case which also could be, they got it already in the store and sell it regardless of official street date....in that case the date you  found would be valid....

I'd stick with March 15 here. IMHO, the fact that one particular employee at one particular Walmart put it out on the shelves a couple of days early, doesn't change the official release date.

If you had it in your hand on March 9, release date is 9 Mar 2016 or earlier, but certainly not March 15.

Stores break release dates sometimes... but that does not change what the release date actually is.

And hey, whaddayaknow, DVD Profiler actually has separate fields for this: one to list the official releasedate, and one to list when you actually bought it.

Profiler rules does not state Official release date, Use the date when the DVD was first released for sale in its specific locality. In this case it is March 9 the date of purchase, but was probably on the shelves March 8.

What is a release date? For me it is the date when the movie is released. In this case, it was actually released March 9 (or before). The fact that the publisher had previously decided to release this title some days after this date doesn't change the fact that this product was actually on shelves March 9.

No... it only means that at least 1 store sold at least 1 copy before the item was released to the public. I work for a store that sells new release titles.... and have worked for other video stores in the past. And I can tell you there is bad consequences if you get caught selling the item before release.. including not getting the releases early... some studios will even stop sending you releases all together.

Just because some store breaks the release date don't change that release date.

I can only imagine everyone having to have the wrong date in the profiles just because someone somewhere broke the release date. Talk about a formula to have ping-pong contributions.

I know I will always vote for and contribute the official release date over someone (possibly accidentally) getting a copy early.

AFAIK sometimes there are store-exclusive pre-releases, where one (chain of) store(s) is allowed to start selling a release earlier than all others.

I don't know if this is such a case.

And I'm not sure what should be entered in DVDP as release date in such cases.

All this are gratuitous assumptions. The only fact is that this title was bought in a store on March 9, so it was actually released. As about your vote, it is just against rules :

Rules :
Use the date when the DVD was first released for sale in its specific locality.

PS. You cannot explain to other users that they have to follow strictly the rules, and sit yourself upon them when you want...

Walmart's website shows a release date of the 15th. The particular store where you got it must have sold it a week early by mistake.
